I Am Not Apologizing to “African” Americans for a Damn Thing
The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.
The resolution, passed by voice vote, was the work of Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen, the only white lawmaker to represent a majority black district. Cohen faces a formidable black challenger in a primary face-off next week.

This has me incensed beyond any ability to respond coherently. Anymore, I have to remind myself that there are sane, hard working, patriotic black Americans who do not hyphenate their nationality and do not seek redress from their fellow Americans and who do not view their world through the distorting lens of race.
I have to continue to remind myself that the disease of victimhood is not native to blacks, but has infected this entire country as evidenced by the popularity of Barack Obama’s constant clarion calls for Americans to see themselves as either in need of, or obligated to, dispense “social justice”. It is evident in this mortgage bail out that benefits greedy consumers who bit off more debt than they can chew and now want their fellow Americans to pay for their bloated ignorance. I’m betting the majority of those getting the bail outs are not black.
Hell, I have always thought talk show hosts like Phil Donahue and Oprah Winfrey and now Tyra Banks make their millions by exploiting the victim mentality. How many countless times have you tuned into one of these witless, exploitative shows and witnessed weeping men and women licking their wounded psyches because of some freaking trauma or perceived injustice. Being wounded has been elevated to some kind of holy sanctified state. In the name of victimhood child rapists and murderers are exonerated because they were victims once too.
And in the name of victimhood, the proud history of this nation and the gains made during the civil rights era are being flushed down the toilet.
Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen and all who signed on to this bill have collectively insulted true Americans. Just as Obama insults America when he announces to an international audience that we Americans have a lot of making up to do. Not on my watch. Not from me. Not from my family.
When I read about some ass like this self-serving political whore , Steven Cohen, I have to hope that he has probably pissed off as many black Americans as he has white.
I have to keep remind myself that it is the ideology that I loathe, not the race. But there is damn likely to be a lot of Americans who will cease making that distinction. And that is exactly what Marxists like Obama want. A divided America that is so torn up over race that the real threats to this nation are swept into the wings.
Following are some excerpts on slavery from some sane, patriotic Americans, some of whom happen to be black.
All they see is blackness. The only America they are interested in is black America. Like Michelle Obama, the only America that means anything to them is the America that will seat them in the White House, or put them up front in the fame and fortune game. “What can this country do for me?” is their theme. “You owe me!” is their approach to life….]
It’s that slavery theme that gives the Negroes supreme moral advantage, and a position which they continually develop, protect, and market. Nothing else will do. With very little knowledge or understanding of economics and labor forces of the 18th and 19th century American culture, with even less knowledge of actual “slave” conditions, the modern black is wildly devoted to decrying their own blackness–which they disguised as a grand moral accusation of America, the grand indictment of slavery. (Never mind the Irish and Scottish indentured servants, and their superior squalor; they were white, so their suffering doesn’t count.)
Rene Marie’s Negro Anthem: Another Janet Jackson Exposure
The very idea of apologizing for what somebody else did is meaningless, however fashionable it has become. A scholar once said that the great economist David Ricardo “was above the unctuous phrases that cost so little and yield such ample returns.” Apparently many others are not.
[...]
Does anyone seriously suggest that blacks in America today would be better off if they were in Africa? If not, then what is the compensation for? Sometimes it is claimed that slavery made a great contribution to the development of the American economy, from which other Americans benefited, so that reparations would be like back pay. Although slave owners benefited from slavery, it is by no means obvious that there were net benefits to the economy as a whole, especially when you subtract the staggering costs of the Civil War.

Slavery itself was not unique to Africans. The very word “slave” derives from the name of a European people–the Slavs, who were enslaved for centuries before the first African was brought to the Western Hemisphere. The tragic fact is that slavery existed all over the world, for thousands of years. Unfortunately, irresponsible demagogues have also existed for thousands of years.
Reparations and Irresponsible Demagogues
During this country’s period of slavery, many freed blacks worked for years to purchase the freedom of family members. But a great many freemen became slave masters themselves, and for the same reason as whites–to make use of slave labor for the sake of profits. Larry Koger writes, “By and large, Negro slaveowners were darker copies of their white counterparts.” Following are excerpts from Chapter 6 of his book, Black Slaveowners: Free Black Slave Masters in South Carolina, 1790-1860 [University of South Carolina Press].
Black Slaveowners
The most painful of all truths is that slavery existed all over this planet, among people of every race and color, for thousands of years. Nobody wanted to be a slave, but that is completely different from saying that they opposed slavery for others. Slavery was as accepted in Africa as it was in Europe or Asia, or among the indigenous peoples of the Western Hemisphere.
Incredibly late in human history, a mass moral revulsion finally set in against slavery–first in 18th century England and then, during the 19th century, throughout Western civilization. But only in Western civilization.
Africans, Arabs, and Asians continued to resist giving up their slaves. Only because Western power was at its peak in the 19th century was Western imperialism able to impose the abolition of slavery around the world–as it imposed the rest of its beliefs and agendas, for good or evil.
Now that Africa has its independence again, there is no great interest in stamping out the slavery that did not get stamped out during the age of European imperialism. People around the world who crusaded for years against the evils of apartheid in South Africa have no interest in the fate of this little girl in Ghana or vast numbers of others like her elsewhere in Africa today.
Only Western Civilization Put an End to Slavery
Finally, I suggest that Steven Cohen, hyphenated Americans and those blithering idiots suffering from white guilt take a few history lessons. Here are some links to get you started. You want apologies, I suggest you start with Africans, Arabs and Muslims.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for an honest answer to that question zee. It is a loaded question with far too many uncomfortable answers to be palatable to the sanctimonious grievance industry.
The KKK Wing of the US Democrat Party:
When it comes to the left, I only expect lies and magical thinking. The only ones who evolve past that, come our way. Unfortunately, more and more seem to prefer their alternate realities.
There is much comfort to be had in believing that there is nothing in the world which can harm you, especially when the defense of your security is in the hands of lesser beings whom you can slander and demean, for your own ego’s comfort. Cowardice is an ugly wretch to face, especially when the coward is that reflection in the mirror. When all your life you were able to disguise that ugliness by endlessly barking at the darkness. For some, it is simply far too dangerous to face reality, for the truth has a nasty habit of bitting….hard…very, very hard.
As the saying goes “gaze into the abyss, and the abyss gazes back into you”
Actually I think that line goes more like “gaze into the abyss long enough, and eventually the abyss gazes back into you”.
Appreciate the link Akira – excellent post.. I am going to link it.
Hey JAR,
Americans, myself included, have never, or rarely, had to face that which is essentially gruesome and brutal, except for scripted horror on the silver screen. The left preens in self-righteous indignation about war, but when it visits these shores – and their cowardice will see to it’s arrival – they, I have often speculated, will be the most brutal and swinish of all as they struggle to find food and water. Your BMW driving, green yuppie will turn into a throat cutting, back stabbing, predator in no time at all.
Zee, certainly a section of them will do as you say, but only from the shadows, and only when the chance of being brought face to face with a determined adversary can be safely avoided. A coward is always a coward, few rarely find their inner spirit.
Interestingly, I have throughout my years, never felt a need to inflict brutality or suffering upon another, nor any grand desire to wage war and conflict, but these past few years have indeed hardened my heart, as if my resolve is being annealed in the furnace of today’s insanity. It is as if we are going through a metamorphosis, our will is being fashioned as we speak. It is a most strange phenomenon.
Your statement reminds me of a quote from Edmund Burke…“and soon to be trod under the hooves of a swinish multitude” ….somehow seemed to be highly apropos of your comment
Those are powerful and provocative thoughts. Hardening of heart – I have always used that in the context of psychology. In my life, I have come to view my hardened heart as a type of failure. To endure deep personal loss, yet to emerge spiritually and psychologically intact, is something to be esteemed. A hardened heart erected to shield oneself from further emotional wounding signals a spiritual abscess, a type of calcified scab signaling bitterness and defeat. As long as it remains, heart and spirit atrophies.
To harden one’s heart in the context of war is an entirely different animal. It is no longer a failure in moral courage but a preparation for the unthinkable, a girding up of the loins…We face a monolithic enemy who savages any vulnerability, an enemy who promises to gnaw on the bones of our grandchildren. It requires a heart adamantine in the determination to die for family and nation. Such a heart is usually found in soldiers and it isn’t governed by bitterness and fear, but by cold, calculating courage. It is indeed a type of metamorphous….. especially for those who never imagined themselves as, and are ill prepared to be, soldiers.
What is amusing is the elites who will constitute that multitude consider us common folks to be the swine.
‘ere, zee, I think some holy superior being just waltzed in and called us a nasty name. I suppose that now we have been suitably enlightened we should learn our place and shut up, ignore the reality around us, after all, we must be ignorant peons in the minds eye of such a grand compassionate mind. What was that line again…oh yes…..” lost in the fragrance of one’s own virtue”
Of course, it could be just another snake oil salesman peddling a guilt trip…how nice.
That ought to be his blog’s tag line. He/she appears to be another one of those sad and peculiar creatures; the self-loathing Jew. Ironically he names his site “A Wake up Call”. More like a soporific it would seem to me.
I thought of commenting on his mewling missive detailing why we all should take on the self-flagellation that he and his ilk demand as their due, but that fragrance you refer to had me gagging.
Man YOU are the reason so many people across this world hate Amerikkkans. Why don’t you do us all a favour and just go die.
Can’t you just feel the love, all that superior compassion just overflowing with original virtue.
graeme, so you and who’s army are going to come over here and do the deed, oh that’s right, your pinning your hopes on Bin Laden and co.
Speaking for myself, I have absolutely no intention of doing ANYTHING to accommodate you and your sick sense of smug superiority. So run along little boy, and go play with your ego someplace else, who knows, you may even find some fool willing to clean up the mess after you.
Hi JAR,
I just don’t know where to begin debating our feral visitor. How can you possibly respond to such bright wit, logic and eloquence.
I am inspired to reply in kind……
Dear graeme
Hi zee, you know, I wouldn’t mind betting that our little fleeting visitor, he of the compassionate mind is a college graduate, it has all the hall marks of a post modern immersion in irrational debate, where the tactic is to embroil your adversary in an irrational blanket of hate and venom, simply in order to either, 1) stir up a sense of outrage and therefore destabilize his moral foundation, or 2) sling enough venom and spite so as to kill any further discussion. For the rationalist will waste time searching for logic and reason to counter what in essence is an act of wanton intellectual assassination, there simply is no rational counter. My advise…laugh in its face, for it is the epitome of absurdity no less
And the KKK in Amerikkkans has the mark of the sophisticated, nuanced set; yep, this one has been educated way, waayyy beyond its abilities.
zee
On the other hand, your approach works just fine. It is after all, in a language that that superior being will be fully able to understand.
well I have to confess that when i refer to leftists and so called progressives who presume to yet call themselves Americans, I resort to amerikkans, to distinguish them from actual Americans. Childish perhaps, but in my mind, anyone spouting the marxist/socialist creed has no love for or loyalty to America.
I googled his email address and that about describes him. A global “do-gooder” all puffed up with his green stained self-righteousness.
Gag me.
Hi zee.
Apropos of your above observation of our visitor, here is something he may wish to ponder upon, (not likely, but one can always live in hope); a quote from C S Lewis…
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
But then, Mr. Lewis is one of those “dead white males” , and therefore someone to be dismissed, because of course, it is far, far easier to dismiss someone, that to turn and engage with the logical arguments…post modern argumentative theory in action.
Ain’t the modern world of superior compassion grand!
I feel, therefore I am
Excellent quote JAR, and too damn true to consider given how we are surrounded by these anal retentive do-gooders. Be it freaking commercials, or movie plots, or dialog stuffed into actors mouth – it’s this incessant “greater good” mantra that rises above all public discourse like some gaseous malaise that no good wind has yet blown asunder.
Hell, i run into it constantly when looking at various blogger jobs posted here and there. If I could write in that vein I’d have plenty of opportunities. I’d rather not, thank you very much.
And if you don’t mind I think that I’ll use the quote for a quick post.
