A Heart Warming Story.

A lady Canadian libertarian wrote a lot of letters to her government, complaining about the treatment of captive insurgents (terrorists) being held in Afghanistan National Correctional System facilities.

She received the following reply:

Dear Concerned Citizen,

Thank you for your recent letter expressing your profound concern for the treatment of the Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorists captured by Canadian Forces who were subsequently transferred to the Afghanistan Government and are currently being held by Afghan officials in Afghanistan National Correctional System facilities.

Our administration takes these matters seriously and your opinions were heard loud and clear here in Ottawa . You will be pleased to learn that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like yourself, we are creating a new department here at the Department of National Defense, to be called ‘Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers’ program, or L.A.R.K. for short.

In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to divert one terrorist and place him in your personal care. Your personal detainee has been selected and is scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence in Toronto next Monday. Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of complaint. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers. We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommend in your letter.

Although Ahmed is a sociopath and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as his ‘attitudinal problem’ will help him overcome these character flaws. Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences. We understand that you plan to offer counselling and home schooling.

Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We advise that you do not ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga group. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless (in your opinion) this might offend him.

Ahmed will not wish to interact with you or your daughters (except sexually) since he views females as a subhuman form of property. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the new dress code that he will recommend as more appropriate attire. I’m sure you will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the burka over time. Just remember that it is all part of ‘respecting his culture and religious beliefs’ as described in your letter.

Thanks again for your concern. We truly appreciate it when folks like you keep us informed of the proper way to do our job and care for our fellow man.

Today’s ‘must read’ is an editorial in Investor’s Business Daily, ACORN’s Senator which details Obama’s activities at ACORN in the ’90′s.

Obama, who once represented ACORN in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois, was hired by the group to train its community organizers and staff in the methods and tactics of the late Saul Alinsky. ACORN would stage in-your-face protests in bank lobbies, drive-through lanes and even at bank managers’ homes to get them to issue risky loans in the inner city or face charges of racism.

In the early 1990s, reports Stanley Kurtz, senior fellow at the Ethics and Policy Center, Obama was personally recruited by Chicago’s ACORN to run training sessions in “direct action.” That’s the euphemism for the techniques used under the cover of the federal Community Reinvestment Act to intimidate financial institutions into giving what have been called “Ninja” loans — no income, no job, no assets — to people who couldn’t afford them.

CRA was designed to increase minority homeownership. Whenever a bank wanted to grow or expand, ACORN would file complaints that it was not sufficiently sensitive to the needs of minorities in providing home loans. Agitators would then be unleashed.

Chicago’s ACORN used Alinsky’s tactics against institutions such as Bell Federal Savings and Loan and Avondale Federal Savings. In September 1992, the Chicago Tribune described the group’s agenda as “affirmative action lending.”

Just over four weeks to go, time to start getting this stuff out to the general public, I have an idea that the Dems are practically holding their breath over it, wishing the election was tomorrow. Don’t underestimate John McCain, I think the reason he held back on it in the debate was because of the bilateral negotiations for the bail out. I imagine he’s pretty angry at the way Pelosi took him for a ride and I think he despises Obama, so watch for some fireworks.

This would explain Obama’s diffidence last week when McCain flew back to Washington to use his influence on Rep Senators to vote for it. So now they’re not meeting again until Thursday! Methinks the sky won’t fall, nothing much will happen at all except the Dems will harp on about how it’s all the fault of the Repubs. Despicable scum.

It’s all up to the ‘Cuda on Thurs now, if she isn’t in full attack mode over this, we’re in trouble. Of course there’s all of October to go, time to turn the tables, time for the Reps to get serious about winning this thing.

As of yesterday, the Democrats’ House whip, Jim Clyburn said that he hadn’t even begun “whipping” Democratic representatives, and wouldn’t do so unless and until he got orders from Nancy Pelosi. Today, Democratic Congressman Peter DeFazio told NPR that he never was “whipped” on the bill. So Pelosi evidently left Democrats to vote their consciences–which is to say, vote against the bill if they thought it was politically necessary–while counting on Republicans to put the bill over the top.

This is a classic Charlie Brown and the football maneuver. Pelosi gives a speech that frames the issue, falsely, as the result of bad Republican policies, then allows her own threatened representatives to do the popular thing while expecting Republicans to take one for the team by casting an unpopular vote. Which, of course, their Democratic opponents would use against them, thereby increasing the Democratic majority in the House.

If this was Pelosi’s plan it failed, in part, perhaps, because her over-the-top partisan diatribe tipped off Republicans as to what was afoot. If, as it now appears, it’s true that the Democrats made no serious effort to pass the bailout bill, it is just one more example of the failure of leadership we have seen since they took control of Congress.

My Advice to Republicans: Don’t Vote on the Bill Until we Have a New Speaker

Here’s her friends Chuckie Schumer and Barney Frank trying to lower lending standards on homes costing nearly half a million dollars — yes we should give half million dollar homes to people not worthy of credit Chuck & Barney, I mean the taxpayers are always willing to take it up the bum from Dems in congress right?:

Schumer and other Democrats have called on the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight to relax government restraints barring Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from buying home loans exceeding $417,000 and from expanding their assets.

The senator introduced legislation last month to let Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac temporarily increase their mortgage portfolios by 10 percent. The bill would also allow the companies to buy loans in “high-cost areas” where values are 50 percent higher than the current $417,000 cap.

U.S. Representative Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said Congress would pursue “sensible regulation” to restore investor confidence in the mortgage markets. Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat, said he wants to meet with mortgage lenders to urge them to help borrowers refinance.

“We need the people who hold the paper to be more flexible,” Frank said.

WHAT exactly does a “community organizer” do? Barack Obama’s rise has left many Americans asking themselves that question. Here’s a big part of the answer: Community organizers intimidate banks into making high-risk loans to customers with poor credit.

In the name of fairness to minorities, community organizers occupy private offices, chant inside bank lobbies, and confront executives at their homes – and thereby force financial institutions to direct hundreds of millions of dollars in mortgages to low-credit customers.

In other words, community organizers help to undermine the US economy by pushing the banking system into a sinkhole of bad loans. And Obama has spent years training and funding the organizers who do it.

THE seeds of today’s financial meltdown lie in the Community Reinvestment Act – a law passed in 1977 and made riskier by unwise amendments and regulatory rulings in later decades.

CRA was meant to encourage banks to make loans to high-risk borrowers, often minorities living in unstable neighborhoods. The Obamas represent racial manipulation, not unity, not harmony, and not equality. Just manipulation for power. According to the latest (9/28) Rasmussen Poll, Barack Hussein Obama now enjoys a 57% approval rating among American voters. What does this mean? It means that those Friday night debates didn’t change a thing. It means that no matter how poorly Barack Obama acquitted himself that night it makes no difference. That revealing “America is the greatest nation in the world, BUT…” statement doesn’t matter. That embarrassing soldier’s bracelet gaff doesn’t matter. His recently exposed contemptuous betrayal of our courageous military in Iraq by his behind-the-scenes attempts to manipulate our troop withdrawals for his own selfish political agenda doesn’t matter. Rezko doesn’t matter. His undeniable twenty year relationship with Reverend “Goddamn America” Wright doesn’t matter. His angry militant anti-white America wife’s outrageous admission that for the first time in her lifetime she is “finally proud to be an American” doesn’t matter. His suspicious ties to Islamists and Muslims don’t matter.

Don’t you see? None of it matters. He is as impervious to stain as OJ Simpson was impervious to justice.

There are no present or future revelations, no matter how powerful, no matter how damning, that will derail this speeding train. 57% of America approves. 57% of America has spoken, and they have said that nothing, absolutely nothing that we have uncovered, or may uncover in the future, makes a damn bit of difference to them. 57% of America will not be dissuaded from their choice. 57% of America approves.

Why the Debates Don’t Matter : Stop The ACLU

Bush indeed has punted America to the other team. And he doesn’t much give a damn about how the game will end. Obama will run with Bush’s paltry 50 billion and, faux “messiah” that he is, he will multiply our debt and our taxes like Jesus multiplied the fish and bread. We will be awash in poverty. Our children’s burdens and deprivations shall runneth over.

And there will still be AIDS, and there will still be poverty. Only there will be no more a bright and shining city on a hill to serve as beacon for, not Obama hope, but the real hope that America once ineluctably embodied.

I have to say to real Americans – we are on our own.

You remember when Obama said, when McCain suspended his campaign and flew to Washington to help with the financial crisis, I’m sure they’ll call me if they need me. So check this out.

WASHINGTON — Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said Sunday his Republican rival deserves no credit for helping to forge a tentative agreement on the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street.

Instead, Obama said he deserves credit for making sure the proposal includes safeguards for taxpayers. Obama said he is inclined to support the bailout because it includes increased oversight, relief for homeowners facing foreclosure and limits on executive compensation for chief executives of firms that receive government help.

“None of those were in the president’s provisions. They are identical to the things I called for the day that (Treasury) Secretary (Henry) Paulson released his package,” Obama said. “That I think is an indication of the degree to which when it comes to protecting taxpayers, I was pushing very hard and involved in shaping those provisions.”

I can’t make up my mind whether Obama is a criminal or just retarded, maybe both, they often go together.
Remember “they’ll call me”? So what to make of this:

“Here are the facts: For two weeks I was on the phone everyday with Secretary Paulson and the congressional leaders making sure that the principles that have been ultimately adopted were incorporated in the bill,” Obama said.

Enough of that, I have to watch my blood pressure.

Instead, pray that McCain/Palin see this and act on it. I’ve read that Sarah has studied Margaret Thatcher, let’s see if she has her backbone. Read through the comments on the article, Americans are hungering for some real leadership.

If the great American middle class ever figures out the trillion dollar phony mortgage scam from Freddie and Fannie, they will finally rise up in wrath and throw the liberal bums out. Let it start hitting their pocket books, their ATM cards and credit cards, let their home prices fall like a rock — and Barack Obama will be out of politics, along with the Democrat majority in Congress.

Obama seeks to take down NRA ad

The Obama campaign has written radio stations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, pressing them to refuse to air an ad from the National Rifle Association.

“This advertisement knowingly misleads your viewing audience about Senator Obama’s position on the Second Amendment,” says the letter from Obama general counsel Bob Bauer. “For the sake of both FCC licensing requirements and the public interest, your station should refuse to continue to air this advertisement.”

The ad, “Hunter,” conflates Obama’s anti-gun stances of the 1990s with his current, more pro-gun, stand, and was chided for inaccuracy in The Washington Post, an item to which Bauer’s letter refers.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam, who provided the letter, said it shows clear evidence that the ads are “hurting him,” and stood by their substance. He also provided a copy of the NRA’s own letter to the stations and memo disputing the Post story, after the jump. He also said the ad is running only in Pennsylvania at the moment.

Mr. Obama, the Democratic nominee for president, is scheduled to speak at a rally at the university today. The public is invited to this forum, on property it, the public, owns. However, signs and banners will not be allowed, according to the organizers and compliant campus officials. Suddenly, UMW is a First Amendment-Free, or at least a First Amendment-Crippled, Zone, subject to the self-serving preferences of politicos. Why does an Obama rally–or a McCain rally or a Nader rally–justify taking a little off the top of Americans’ most fundamental rights?

A UMW spokeswoman says that the Obama campaign required the sign-and-banner ban. That campaign tells us that the ban is for “security” reasons. But a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, responsible for protecting presidential candidates, says that the service has no objection to signs at rallies, provided that no “part of the sign could be used as a weapon”–e.g., a heavy metal pole or a sharpened stick. JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

If this allegation is true, Barack Obama needs to do more than grow up. Governor Blunt said explicitly that “I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights.” The U.S. Code (Title 18, Crimes) has a specific name for this.

Iraq.

Obama keeps trotting out that going to war with Iraq was a mistake, standard received wisdom on the left. Which just goes to show the shallowness of their ‘thinking’. Not mentioned is what might have happened had we not. We would still have Saddam running a dysfunctional totalitarian state in the midst of like states, with the only likelihood for the future being that it would get worse and more dangerous. Instead we have a nascent democracy in an Arab Muslin country which is also an ally. We have a presence there that we would not otherwise have. We have the example to other Arab states that yes, they can ‘do’ democracy and that it is beneficial to them and to the world. This was the real ‘Bush Doctrine’ as laid out by Paul Wolfowitz and others and it is still the best hope for changing what could not be left to fester like a metastasizing cancer, it had to be tackled just as in the end Nazism and Communism were. But you try to explain that to a lefty, they merely think you are insane or retarded.

What I really wanted to comment on is the also oft repeated canard that ‘mistakes were made’, that it was Rumsfeld and Bush’s obstinacy that created the insurgency and Al Qaeda and the ‘quagmire’. But what if Petraeus had been parachuted in after the initial invasion with his surge, would it have worked? I think not. Just as Germany and Japan had to experience the horror of military defeat and devastation, so the Sunnis had to experience the same, though not by the US. Al Qaeda did us a huge favour by making Iraq their central battle ground. Though the Sunnis allied themselves to AQ, thinking the US was the enemy, [which it was I guess since they'd ousted them from their position of the 'natural' rulers of Iraq], they gave them a taste of real defeat and occupation by a hostile entity, which also provoked the Shia to retaliate with the spectre of all out civil war erupting. Without those years of war and horror I think neither the Sunnis or the Shia would have given up their conviction that Iraq belonged to them to rule and do with as they saw fit. In the meantime, because of their intelligent and heroic role, the US Military came to be seen as the ‘good guys’, which the surge emphasized by showing the Iraqis, and the Sunnis especially, that we meant business, that we weren’t going to quit and leave them to the mercies of AQ and/or the remnants of Saddam’s regime. This is what Obama, Murtha, and all the other critics of the surge didn’t understand and that Bush, Petraeus and others did, and why Obama ‘couldn’t in his wildest dreams’ see that it could succeed. But Iraq had to be ‘ready’ for that.

It took the British some fifteen years to defeat the Communist insurgency in Malaya, how many years is it now that Sri Lanka has been fighting the Tamil Tigers, it isn’t something that can be achieved in a short time by waltzing in and ‘doing everything right’ and be out again in a year or two. It’s a hard slog, but something the civilized world has to engage in from time to time since there will always be areas of the globe that become totalitarian and dangerous.

The Democratic Party, Corruption Personified.

Does everyone know yet that the Dems who caused the financial debacle in the first place*, instead of being serious about a rescue package, tried to sneak in a ban on offshore drilling and a scheme to siphon off money and give it to Obama’s corrupt organisation, ACORN?

The Volock Conspiracy has the gen on this, even with this crooked scheme there is crookedness within crookedness, not for them a straight forward ‘take’, but a take on any deals that make a profit with no offset for those that don’t. Al Capone must be looking down with great admiration on this bunch of nefarious ‘public servants’.

Prior financial bailouts, or “rescues,” such as those involving savings and loan failures, and Chrysler, have over time actually made money for the government. It may be the case here as well, as assets bought by the government at bargain prices return to marketable values and are auctioned off.

One of the sticking points in resolving the crisis was a poison pill in the Dodd/Paulson compromise that would move 20% of profits from the bailout into the Housing Trust Fund, a slush fund for political action groups such as ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) and the National Council of La Raza.

Sen. Lindsey Graham told Greta Van Susteren of Fox News that Democrats had other priorities than just solving this crisis: “And this deal that’s on the table now is not a very good deal. Twenty percent of the money that should go to retire debt that will be created to solve this problem winds up in a housing organization called ACORN that is an absolute ill-run enterprise, and I can’t believe we would take money away from debt retirement to put it in a housing program that doesn’t work.”

No wonder that the Reps balked. The Dims must be even dimmer than they appear to think they could get away with this, but then they get a pass on so much it isn’t really surprising. Much like Jean Chretien’s Liberals here in Canada with their massive corruption and the UN along with Russia, Germany and France and the Oil for Food scam, they do seem to get away with it, in that no one actually goes to jail and they keep the money too. It’s a strange world.

And……. it occurs to me that the left are basically a bunch of busybodies. It’s a word you don’t see much used these days but it used to be that in a village there was always someone who would make it their business to pry into what everyone was doing and to pass moral judgement on them. Shop stewards, lefty by definition, are the same type. In the small apt building where I live, an older building with 28 apts, there have been a number of busybodies, all of them middle aged, childless women, with dogs that they dote on and with nothing better to do with their lives than to make it their business to complain to the landlord on every perceived annoyance from other tenants that their atrophied existence can conjure up. Needless to say they are all lefties.

John Boehner and the GOP House Plan That Democrats Fear

Contrary to the Obama camp’s accusations of political chicanery, McCain was invited to Washington by none other than Treasury Secretary Paulson.

BOB SCHIEFFER: I am told, Maggie, that the way McCain got involved in this in the first place, the Treasury Secretary was briefing Republicans in the House yesterday, the Republican conference, asked how many were ready to support the bailout plan. Only four of them held up their hands. Paulson then called, according to my sources, Senator Lindsey Graham, who is very close to John McCain, and told him: you’ve got to get the people in the McCain campaign, you’ve got to convince John McCain to give these Republicans some political cover. If you don’t do that, this whole bailout plan is going to fail. So that’s how, McCain, apparently, became involved. (source)

The Dims likely thought that McCain would herd recalcitrant Republicans in line, but it appears that McCain did what he always does – the unexpected. And if the Dim’s disastrous legislation is killed, America can thank John Boehner and McCain’s support of the Republican proposed legislation that will spare us the nightmare that the damnable DemocRATS wanted to shove down our throats.

Boehner and the bailout

It is Boehner who has emerged as the most powerful voice against the rescue package that involves the government buying up toxic debt from financial institutions in an attempt to get the credit markets rolling again. And Boehner has met with Republican nominee John McCain, leading some to wonder if he and McCain are working in tandem to kill the deal that seemed amenable to Democrats and some Senate Republicans.

But Boehner is simply representing the wishes of the majority of his House Republican Conference, conservatives to whom the bailout is anathema, says one GOP consultant familiar with Boehner and House Republicans. And if the bailout package has angered many Americans who see it as rescuing greedy Wall Street executives and don’t necessarily buy the necessity or threat to the overall economy talked about by Bush, it is especially unpopular in the districts of conservative Republicans, said this consultant, who spoke only on condition of anonymity.

“This is by no means John Boehner (alone) trying torpedo this thing,” the GOP consultant said. “This is Boehner taking the concerns of his conference to this mediation. If anything, he is probably underrepresenting the negative sentiment among his members about this.”

Will House Republicans Get What They Want?

Representative Jeb Hensarling of Texas, the chairman of the Republican Study Committee who is one of the most vocal critics of the administration’s plan, has been urging lawmakers to slow down and consider alternative proposals.

“We have a lot of folks who say we are looking at financial catastrophe on the one hand, but we may be looking at national bankruptcy and the road to socialism on the other,” Mr. Hensarling said in an interview on Wednesday. “Once you lose your freedom to fail, you also lose your freedom to succeed and you cease to be a free society. So we will continue to look at other alternatives.”

The Republican presidential candidate, Senator John McCain, was at least willing to listen.

“There was no deal or offer yesterday that had a majority of support in Congress,” a McCain campaign statement issued on Friday said. “There was no deal yesterday that included adequate protections for the taxpayers.”

The GOP Plan

Here’s the bullet points directly from the House GOP plan:

* Rather than providing taxpayer funded purchases of frozen mortgage assets, we should adopt a mortgage insurance approach to solve the problem.

* Currently the federal government insures approximately half of all mortgage backed securities. (MBS) We can insure the rest of current outstanding MBS; however, rather than taxpayers funding insurance, the holders of these assets should pay for it. Treasury Department can design a system to charge premiums to the holders of MBS to fully finance this insurance.

* Have Private Capital Injection to the Financial Markets, Not Tax Dollars. Instead of injecting taxpayer capital into the market to produce liquidity, private capital can be drawn into the market by removing regulatory and tax barriers that are currently blocking private capital formation. Too much private capital is sitting on the sidelines during this crisis.

* Temporary tax relief provisions can help companies free up capital to maintain operations, create jobs, and lend to one another. In addition, we should allow for a temporary suspension of dividend payments by financial institutions and other regulatory measures to address the problems surrounding private capital liquidity.

*Immediate Transparency, Oversight, and Market Reform. Require participating firms to disclose to Treasury the value of their mortgage assets on their books, the value of any private bids within the last year for such assets, and their last audit report.

* Wall Street Executives should not benefit from taxpayer funding. Call on the SEC to review the performance of the Credit Rating Agencies and their ability to accurately reflect the risks of these failed investment securities.

*Create a blue ribbon panel with representatives of Treasury, SEC, and the Fed to make recommendations to Congress for reforms of the financial sector by January 1, 2009.

Schumer: McCain Is ‘Not Helping’

During a speech on the Senate floor this morning, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D) urged President Bush to “respectfully tell Sen. McCain to get out of town. He’s not helping.”

Schumer also requested that Bush get the his House Republicans in line. “We need President Bush to take leadership. We need President Bush, first and foremost, to get the Republican House members to support his plan or modify it in some way to bring them on board,” he said. (source)

Here are just a couple of the reasons why the execrable Schumer wanted McCain to “get out of town” when he didn’t play the game. The several posts prior to this one provide many other reasons that this “bailout” must fail.

The Democratic ACORN bailout

The real purpose of section D is to send more funds to La Raza and ACORN through housing welfare, via the slush fund of the HTF. They want to float their political efforts on behalf of Democrats with public money, which was always the purpose behind the HTF. They did the same thing in April in the first bailout bill, setting aside $100 million in “counseling” that went in large part to ACORN and La Raza, and at least in the former case, providing taxpayer funding for a group facing criminal charges in more than a dozen states for fraud.

It’s bad enough that taxpayers have to pay the price for Congress’ decade-long distortions of the lending and investment markets. If we realize a profit from the bailout, that money should go to pay down the debt or get returned to taxpayers as dividends from their investment — not to organizations committing voter fraud, and not to restarting the entire cycle of government meddling in lending markets. I’d support a rational bailout package, but anything that funds the HTF needs to get stopped.

Are journalists playing favorites with some of the key political figures involved with regulatory oversight of U.S. financial markets?

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews launched several vitriolic attacks on the Republican Party on his Sept. 17, 2008, show, suggesting blame for Wall Street problems should be focused in a partisan way. However, he and other media have failed to thoroughly examine the Democratic side of the blame game.

Prominent Democrats ran Fannie Mae, the same government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) that donated campaign cash to top Democrats. And one of Fannie Mae’s main defenders in the House – Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., a recipient of more than $40,000 in campaign donations from Fannie since 1989 – was once romantically involved with a Fannie Mae executive.

Frank was and remains a stalwart defender of Fannie Mae, which is now under FBI investigation along with its sister organization Freddie Mac, American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG) and Lehman Brothers (NYSE:LEH) – all recently participants in government bailouts. But Frank has derailed efforts to regulate the institution, as well as denying it posed any financial risk. Frank’s office has been unresponsive to efforts by the Business & Media Institute to comment on these potential conflicts of interest.
While the relationship reportedly ended 10 years ago, Frank was serving on the House Banking Committee the entire 10 years they were together. The committee is the primary House body which along with the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) has jurisdiction over the government-sponsored enterprises.

He has served on the committee since becoming a congressman in 1981 and became the ranking Democrat on the committee in 2003. He became chairman of the committee, now called the House Financial Services Committee, in 2007.

Moses was the assistant director for product initiatives at Fannie Mae and had been at the forefront of relaxing lending restrictions at the company for rural customers, according to the Feb. 23, 1998, issue of National Mortgage News (NMN).
