Opting Out.

A while back in an e-mail, Zee expressed an interest in finding a piece of land on which to live, grow vegetables and fruit, keep chickens and a couple of cows partly in order to become less dependent on government services and utilities. Well there is an interesting post and comments at Fresh Bilge on the subject and on opting out of the system as much as possible, lying low as some call it. Though I haven’t done much posting lately I think we bloggers are by definition ‘involved’ in our communities and our country and all without need of community organizers. We are ‘free spirits’ in some respects, independent by nature and our involvement is the necessary means to ensure that we and our friends and neighbours can stay that way, no ‘community organizing’ for us, we’d rather allow others to figure out for themselves what is in their best interest and if they or we fail sometimes well that’s the price we pay to learn. The socialists and community organizers will only lead you down a dead end street.

O/T but I found this amusing. On Valentine’s Day the local Classics radio station was taking requests and dedications from listeners all day. One guy phoned in and started, “My name is John Rainbow, R-a-i-n b-o-w”.
Firstly who wouldn’t know how to spell rainbow, then who the hell does he think would be interested and lastly there is all that technology in use and thousands of people listening while he takes the time to slowly spell out his name. It’s a bit like those in the supermarket who will leave their cart at an angle in the middle of the aisle while they saunter off to find something, or the cab drivers who stop three feet from the kerb to pick up a passenger, a complete unawareness or care on what is going on around them. Maybe it’s not so O/T, maybe it’s like a personal opting out or an ersatz opting out when the real thing is unobtainable.

In all respects i believe that people, towns, states and nations need to become more independent of each other. We all need to learn to look after ourselves. Who else can have our best interests at heart.

“They’re a nasty lot these compassionate lefty Bolsheviks.”

    That they are.

“President Obama is the Prince of Thieves, who with his minions in Congress will do more to undermine this nation in a few short years than all the decades of economic turmoil, cold war and the war on terror. He wraps his policies in moral platitudes, cynically using little old ladies at rallies to anchor his inconsistencies and lies in the minds of a credulous public. The press is his willing propagandist.”

It’s far easier to break it all down than to make it. The press being on his side is a helluva boost too.

MK I agree with you, you see what’s happened with EUtopia, all those ancient nations losing their hard fought for sovereignty to be governed by an unelected elite. The problem comes when you have to resist a similar plan such as the takeover of the country by a Democratic party that has itself been taken over by Marxist/Socialists. Then those who value freedom and independence have to come together to fight it, it can’t be done by people acting alone. This is war!

    From ‘Faith Life’ blog:

“The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools.” Herbert Spencer (1820-1903)

Strange how the followers of Darwin (progressive liberal socialists) are so interested in trying to negate the principles of Darwin. Hypocrites?

Well they are hypocrites and many other things too but I believe their main problem is that they are stuck in that adolescent idealism that we all go through when we think we have all the answers. Dr. Sanity puts it down to Narcissistic Personality Disorder. And remember when being told incessantly how intelligent these people are, ‘Intelligence is no guarantee against stupidity’.

Thanks for the link Ligneus – I’d gotten out of the habit of reading Dr. Sanity. heh. Maybe that’s why I’m going nuts, eh? Anyway…

That’s something that I’ve REALLY noticed about the liberals – their constant screeching whine about how intelligent they are! It like an echo from their past, how their Mommy and First Grade teacher would tell them how smart they were. I’ll take 2# of ‘common sense’ mixed with a ‘teachable spirit’ over 50# of intellect any day of the week. Full of pride/arrogance are these hyper-intellects, aye… Beasts fit for the slaughter they be: “But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.” (2 Peter 2:12 NIV)

and like beasts they too will perish.”

We can only hope! As I’ve said before, they are like very smart adolescents who too full of themselves to know that there are things they don’t know. This in part is what makes them so dangerous. ‘Doubt is the beginning of wisdom’ and all that.
