The Australian communications regulator’s top-secret blacklist of banned websites has been leaked on to the web and paints a harrowing picture of Australia’s forthcoming internet censorship regime.

Wikileaks, an anonymous document repository for whistleblowers, obtained the list, which has been seen by this website, and plans to publish it for public consumption on its website imminently.

Wikileaks has previously published the blacklists for Thailand, Denmark and Norway.

University of Sydney associate professor Bjorn Landfeldt said the leaked list “constitutes a condensed encyclopedia of depravity and potentially very dangerous material”.

He said the leaked list would become “the concerned parent’s worst nightmare” as curious children would inevitably seek it out.

But about half of the sites on the list are not related to child porn and include a slew of online poker sites, YouTube links, regular gay and straight porn sites, Wikipedia entries, euthanasia sites, websites of fringe religions such as satanic sites, fetish sites, Christian sites, the website of a tour operator and even a Queensland dentist.

“It seems to me as if just about anything can potentially get on the list,” Landfelt said.

The blacklist is maintained by ACMA and provided to makers of internet filtering software that parents can opt to install on their PCs.

However, if the Government proceeds with its mandatory internet filtering scheme, sites on the blacklist will be blocked for all Australians. The Government has flagged plans to expand the blacklist to 10,000 sites or more.

In a special report, written in conjunction with the Internet Industry Association and presented to the Government over a year ago, Landfeldt warned that “list leakage” was one of the main issues associated with maintaining a secret blacklist of prohibited sites.

Barack Hussein Obama Frightened of Rush Limbaugh

That is an Alinsky (Obama’s ideological kin) quote as provided by Rush Limbaugh in his talk with Byron York about Obama’s latest effort to squelch the opposition.

There are two things going on here. One prong of the Great Unifier’s plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan. He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me. And who knows? Are ideological and philosophical ties enough to keep the GOP loyal to their voters? Meanwhile, the effort to foist all blame for this mess on the private sector continues unabated when most of the blame for this current debacle can be laid at the feet of the Congress and a couple of former presidents. And there is a strategic reason for this. (Source)

If the so-called progressive vision is so superior, it would not need to function by stealth, cloaked in the purloined language of American conservatism. If Obama’s ideology  had substance, integrity and power it could deflect each and every challenge issued from the right. But instead, Obama has steadfastly sought to squelch dissent, and as Conservative Oasis blogger Con1 writes in his exceptional post on the topic, the daggers that will stop the heart of our freedoms will not necessarily issue from a resurrected “Fairness” Doctrine, but by a far more Orwellian route.

The left will be emboldened with their latest power grab in the last two elections, pretending to have a mandate when in fact, the country is still split nearly 50/50 in all major race levels in the US. They will attempt to push through legislation that will affect Christmas, or the expression thereof; they will attempt to push through legislation affecting gay’s, and how society interacts with or supposedly “deomonizes” them; and they will attempt to control various levels of expression, or freedom of speech.

But, here is the real question… Do you really have to reintroduce the Fairness Doctrine in order to actually have the same effect, elsewhere?

The answer is, NO.

With a new President will come a new Chairman of the FCC. Just like the Dept. of Justice and Attorney General, this figurehead can, and likely will, have a potentially chilling effect on “communications” without even putting a pen to anything that has the word “Fairness Doctrine” on it.

How?

Hate crimes legislation.

According to Craig Parshall, National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) senior vice president and general counsel:

Parshall notes that an Obama staffer has iterated that Obama has no interest in reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, but adds a very interesting connection:

“But in the same breath, he is interested in seeing a diversity of opinion on the airwaves. Well, that’s an interesting coupling, because diversity of opinion on the airwaves is the justification used for creation of the Fairness Doctrine in the first place.”

When  in all his smug arrogance Obama declares that Republicans best not listen to Rush Limbaugh he is, in essence, demanding that these already spineless legislators ignore their constituents. I know basic business concepts have proven elusive for Resident Obomba to grasp, but Limbaugh and talk radio enjoy the success that they do because they sell the political product that half of America wants to buy. And typical of the cowardice that rots the liberal backbone, instead of rising to the challenge, OB seeks to bury it.

In the end, I find it sad to see how casually Obama demeans the office he now holds, an office that has, in the past, been far above the railings of talk show hosts. With leaders of N Korea, Pakistan , Iran and Russia demonstrating their hostile intentions , Obama instead takes on Rush Limbaugh.  How ludicrous is that? When George Bush exited Washington,  so also did the dignity and grandeur of the White House.

Go ahead, Obomba, continue to act like a thwarted high school thug, as Con 1 accurately pronounces,“Liberals are children in adult bodies.” It as if the spiritual descendants from the Lord of the Flies have mutated into this nation’s leadership.  As many are wont to say these days, God help us all.

Inauguration of Marxist Commences With Censorship – How Appropriate

While those who are sane in this country view tomorrow’s coronation of the Obamanite with deep sadness and trepidation, teachers indoctrinators  represent a segment of the population sufficiently depraved to find cause to welcome the coming tyranny. True to the foul nature that pervades that degraded profession, Mason School District, in the recently red afflicted state of Ohio, will mark the beginning Obama’s reign with censorship. How appropriate.

Mason school officials said they are taking a proactive educational approach in advance of next week’s planned Inauguration Day activities.

“Inappropriate comments that may make other students, staff or families feel unwelcome or uncomfortable in school or on the bus will not be tolerated,” Superintendent Kevin Bright said in an e-mail sent to parents Monday, Jan. 12.

The district, he said, expects students and staff to show respect for President-elect Obama and the incoming administration, as well as President Bush and the outgoing administration, and recognize that “while the election is a competitive process, our nation’s greatness is displayed when all sides come together for a united country.”

Jeff Schlaeger, Mason High School’s psychologist, said “inappropriate comments” occurred around election week when doctored pictures of Obama appeared at the school, including “derogatory caricatures” of him dressed like a terrorist and signs that read “Obama ’08/Biden ’09.” (source)

I am way too irritated to dig up the post, but a few years ago I communicated with a member of the Mason School Board who protested the special accommodations given muslim students for Ramada. Typical of the progressive whores that they are, the board met this woman’s legitimate complaint with denial, lies and evasion. So it is no surprise that the same school would seek to silence dissent. Unfortunately, Mason School in Ohio is not the only indoctrination camp in America to pursue censorship. With Obama at the helm, it will only get worse.

If you are so inclined, contact this pathetic institution of lower learning and edify them on the first amendment. You know how those damn marxists are – they always forget about those pesky little things called rights. And I do not want to hear a damn thing about students not having speech rights on campus – if teachers have the right to suppress, students damn well need to revolt.

Robert Spencer, Jihad, and “MainSt. Media”

Always on Watch (blogging at The Gathering Storm)  is always able to secure  excellent guests. It amazes me sometimes what “folks” can do. I just heard someone refer to it as “MainSt. Media”.  Sounds good. Since the anarchists, rebels and dirty old hippies have managed to go turn themselves into the “Establishment”, maybe they can remove their sorry asses from the streets. The streets belong to our side now.

The damnable thing is, the hippies and leftists of the sixties  ranted against an imaginary oppression. They now come swaggering through the doors of power bearing with them the very oppression which they had  proclaimed America was guilty of exercising. Obviously, given their ascent to power, their infiltration of education, their dominance in culture, that they were not then, nor since,  oppressed.

That have become that ogre of fascism that they have always feared.
Obama and his possee have already demonstrated their willingness to suppress speech. If you want to do anything, fight for the right of “MainSt.” broadcasters like “Always on Watch” to retain the right to broadcast. Support their efforts and the hundreds of other worthy media outlets that are aligning themselves for the fight ahead.

Australia to implement mandatory internet censorship

AUSTRALIA will join China in implementing mandatory censoring of the internet under plans put forward by the Federal Government.

The revelations emerge as US tech giants Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, and a coalition of human rights and other groups unveiled a code of conduct aimed at safeguarding online freedom of speech and privacy.

The government has declared it will not let internet users opt out of the proposed national internet filter.

The plan was first created as a way to combat child pornography and adult content, but could be extended to include controversial websites on euthanasia or anorexia.

Communications minister Stephen Conroy revealed the mandatory censorship to the Senate estimates committee as the Global Network Initiative, bringing together leading companies, human rights organisations, academics and investors, committed the technology firms to “protect the freedom of expression and privacy rights of their users”.

Mr Conroy said trials were yet to be carried out, but “we are talking about mandatory blocking, where possible, of illegal material.”

The net nanny proposal was originally going to allow Australians who wanted uncensored access to the web the option of contacting their internet service provider to be excluded from the service.

Human Rights Watch has condemned internet censorship, and argued to the US Senate “there is a real danger of a Virtual Curtain dividing the internet, much as the Iron Curtain did during the Cold War, because some governments fear the potential of the internet, (and) want to control it”

More “Progressive” Fascism

Administrators at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota–the nation’s largest Catholic women’s college–unexpectedly blocked young conservatives on campus from hosting Bay Buchanan, a popular conservative commentator and U.S. Treasurer under President Reagan. The speech was scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, but was abruptly canceled after college officials deemed Ms. Buchanan’s remarks on “Feminism and the 2008 Election” too politically charged, citing concerns about the school’s tax status. “Because we are a 501(c)(3) organization, the College of St. Catherine has sought to avoid any appearance of partisanship during the 2008 political season,” said College spokesman Julie Michener.

That Ms. Michener can say that with a straight face is remarkable, considering the actions of her school’s program, Voter Education 2008. Program-sponsored seminars have highlighted student agitators protesting the GOP’s convention and featured a representative from the Joint Religious Legislative Task Force, which pushes for universal healthcare and minimum wage increases.

St. Catherine’s student handbook claims, “Students enjoy the collective assurance and protection of free inquiry and open exchange of facts, ideas and openness.” Except, not really. St. Catherine is filtering out ideas it doesn’t want its students to hear.

Barack Obama: Bringing You the Sounds of Conservative Silence

If there was only one single reason to vote against Obama, the Supreme Court would be it. How ever the Supreme Court goes, so goes our constitution. So goes our freedom. So goes America.

Now, just like Progressives think they can re-interpret the bible and speak for God and Jesus, they also feel that the constitution is theirs to revise in any way that they are so lead. To them it is a living document, subject to any interpretation that their pointy little heads can devise.

What Liberals Want

A progressive conference on the Constitution sheds light on the real stakes involved with the judiciary.

The left makes no secret of its intentions where the Constitution is concerned. It wants to change it, in ways that have nothing to do with what the document actually says. It wants the Constitution to enshrine its own policy preferences–thus freeing it from the tiresome necessity of winning elections. And how will the Constitution be changed? Through a constitutional convention, or a vote of two-thirds of the state legislatures? Of course not. The whole problem, from the liberal perspective, is that they can’t get democratically elected bodies to enact their agenda. As one of the Yale conference participants said: “We don’t have much choice other than to believe deeply in the courts–where else do we turn?” The new, improved Constitution will come about through judicial re-interpretation.
It only awaits, perhaps, the election of the next Democratic president.

And here he comes, that very president, being advised by yet another flaming socialist, Cass Sunstein, a man who practices constitutional blasphemy.

Harvard Law School professor Cass Sunstein was appointed as an advisor for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. Sunstein formerly taught at the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a colleague of Obama in the 1990s.

In his 2004 book The Second Bill of Rights: FDR’s Unfinished Revolution and Why We Need It More than Ever, Sunstein argues that citizens’ rights exist only to the extent that they are granted by the government.

Sunstein, who believes that the federal courts are dominated by conservatives, agrees with Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer’s assertion that the Constitution is a “living” document whose meanings and mandates change with the passage of time.

In his 2006 book The Audacity of Hope, Obama echoes the foregoing perspective, declaring that, as President, he would not appoint a strict constructionist to the Supreme Court:

“When we get in a tussle, we appeal to the Founding Fathers and the Constitution’s ratifiers to give direction. Some, like Justice Scalia, conclude that the original understanding must be followed and if we obey this rule, democracy is respected. Others, like Justice Breyer, insist that sometimes the original understanding can take you only so far — that on the truly big arguments, we have to take context, history, and the practical outcomes of a decision into account. I have to side with Justice Breyer’s view of the Constitution — that it is not a static but rather a living document and must be read in the context of an ever-changing world…”

So for those  who still wonder how Obama can so blatantly trample the First Amendment, well, he never did have much respect for it to start with, as is evidenced by all of his maneuvers to squelch opposition during his current crusade for office.

Now, factor in this disdain for all of our basic freedoms with his grotesque ambition to foist on America a “youth corp”, and you have Obamafascism.

He said: “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Obama Wants DOJ to Silence McCain-Palin on ACORN

Remember when Barack Obama used his campaign lawyers to petition the Department of Justice to shut down the American Issues Project when it created an ad about William Ayers?

Obama’s complaint didn’t go anywhere, but he’s at it again. This time Obama’s trying to use his influence as a presidential candidate and U.S. Senator to convince the DOJ to shut down those who are criticizing ACORN.

Obama for America General Counsel Bob Bauer wrote a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasy last Friday asking Mukasy to launch an investigation against John McCain, Sarah Palin and their campaign surrogates.

Why? Because Obama is upset the GOP is drawing attention to ACORN’s fraudulent voter registration activities. Bauer said members of the GOP are “fomenting specious vote fraud allegations, and there are distorting indications of official involvement or collusion.”

Bauer’s 7-page letter specifically accuses McCain, Palin and Republican Sens. George Voinovich, John Cornyn and Reps. Michele Bachmann, Roy Blunt and Paul Ryan of engaging in “politically-motivated efforts to influence the Department’s investigative and prosecutorial efforts.”

The Heritage Foundation’s Conn Carroll says this gives a “good preview of what an Obama Department of Justice would look like.” Scary.

When All Else Fails, Use The Courts To Silence Talk Radio

Having failed to shut down conservative talk radio through every means possible, including well- funded attack sites, smear strategies and so much more, the left has opened up a new front on its war against viewpoints they oppose. The new approach: simply sue your political foes right out of business.

In what appears to be a test case for what could become a future trend nationwide, a suit has been filed in Los Angeles against conservative talk station KRLA, which is owned by Salem Broadcasting.

In the suit, David Birke and attorney Johnny Birke argue that KRLA uses public airwaves to push Republican Party causes, an old lefty chestnut. Named in the suit are Salem, CEO Ed Atsinger and seven talk show hosts, according to the Glendale News-Press….

The Coming Counterrevolution To Hush The Alternative Media

But the biggest potential danger of neutrality is that its concern for equal treatment of bits will extend to sites’ content, creating a kind of Fairness Doctrine for the Web, as FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell has warned — and as Obama adviser and law professor Cass Sunstein once called for.

Not coincidentally, hampering the alternative media with new regulations would leave the liberal mainstream press, which still enjoys full First Amendment protections, comparatively empowered.

Given how the “MSM” has covered this presidential race — fawning over Obama and pummeling John McCain and especially his charismatic running mate Sarah Palin at every opportunity — it’s easy to see why many liberals may be hoping for a media restoration.

The unFairness Doctrine

There are always those who’d like to improve on freedom of speech. Shut up, they explain. All they want is what’s fair, meaning their idea of what’s fair. There’s a difference.

They sigh for the good old days when riffraff like Rush Limbaugh and numerous imitators could be shut out of the public discourse. It is those who claim to speak for The People who resent it most when people choose to listen to somebody else.

We knew who our betters were in the good old days, when we tuned in to find out what was politically correct long before it had acquired that label. No wonder our current elite, or those who’d like to be, dream of restoring the Fairness Doctrine in all its constricting glory.

On his Web site, Barack Obama says that the country should “clarify the public interest obligation of broadcasters who occupy the nation’s spectrum.” I’m not sure what that means, but I have an idea. The senator can put all the lipstick he wants to on the Fairness Doctrine, but it’d still be unfair. Those who wax sentimental for it mystify me. I’d much prefer to win a fair fight, or even lose one, rather than tie the other guy’s hands. For the best response to an idea one detests is not to suppress it, but to offer a better idea. It’s only fair.

Democracy is the Ultimate Form of Intolerance

This week the Washington Post had the upbeat story of how a bunch of Democratic activists in Prince George’s County used a combination of racial victimization and straight up threats of boycotts to intimidate a hotel into removing a McCain marquee.

Had it been a bunch of Republican activists forcing a black hotel owner to remove an Obama for President sign, we can be sure that the Washington Post would have covered it in entirely different tones. We can also be sure that someone would have turned up a noose somewhere even if they had to buy it on eBay and Jesse Jackson would be leading a march down there chanting, “We Will Overcome.”

But since it’s a McCain sign, there was a sense of entitlement by black Democratic activists in getting it taken down. A sense of entitlement that the Washington Post article implicitly supports. Apparently supporting the candidate of your choice, if he isn’t Obama, is “disrespect” which is next door to “intolerance” which is next door to “racism”.

This all makes sense in the same twilight zone in which McCain with his interracial family is just like George Wallace and a commercial pointing out that Obama was associated with an upper middle class white terrorist is racist. Then there’s Sarah Palin’s white blouse. Next thing you know she’ll be burning polar bear crosses on their lawn.

Free Speech, Islam, Barack Obama

At one point, YouTube pulled this video, much the same as they tend to pull down anti-Obama videos. We can expect more protection for islamofascists if Barack Obama ever takes office. Like his muslim buddies, Obama has, thus far, proven himself to be very unfriendly towards free speech when such speech is critical of him. Fortunately, there was sufficient outcry to restore Condell’s video. Unfortunately, a successful outcome in such battles depends on the free dissemination of knowledge. Obama will hinder that process considerably.

Apparently YouTube, who has had some challenges with Turkey and Pakistan, have decided that it is easier to block ‘problematic’ content themselves than standing up for freedom and have Pakistani Internet operators wreck havoc on them.

We are still waiting for the day when big media realizes they have a responsibility to stand up for freedom of expression.

In his latest video, Pat Condell sure manages to step on some toes in this latest video. But that is well deserved, for what happens is serious and what he has to say is important. : (Source)

Though I appreciate Condell’s excellent work against Islam, I find it sad and ironic that he, as an atheist, also disparages Christianity, the only religion boasting a God who respects individual free will. In the end, it will be Christians defending Condell’s rights to preach against Islam, even as he attacks their own faith.

This ad was sought by Barack Obama through Carol Rosenthal Casting. This was supposed to be an attack ad against McCain and Palin because they are both Pro-Life. Also, the “lucky” girl who would have won the role would not receive any payment except a DVD of the commercial for her acting portfolio.

Not only is Barack Obama pro-abortion / pro-murder / pro-death, but he is cheap to boot!

Chicago Bears Won’t Allow McCain Supporters To Wear McCain Gear, But Obama Supporters Do Whatever They Want

Monterrey Security, a private contractor hired by the Chicago Bears, repeatedly tried to keep McCain supporters from wearing McCain gear or supporting McCain at the Bears game, but DID NOT inhibit Obama supporters in any way. People were allowed to wear Obama tee shirts, buttons, etc. and walk freely into the parking lots and Bears game. People wearing McCain stickers, holding McCain signs, and wearing McCain shirts were stopped by Monterrey Security and told that no political items were allowed in the parking lot tailgating parties or inside the stadium.

Obama supporters were not harrassed.

McCain supporters were told they were not allowed to have McCain shirts, stickers, signs, or other gear.

Monterrey Security enforced a policy at Soldier Field that applied only to supporters of John McCain.

Obama’s followers had free reign to do as they pleased.

Another Weatherman terrorist a player in Obama campaign

One of the main founders of the Weathermen terrorist organization is a signatory to an independent organization acting to ensure the election of Sen. Barack Obama, WND has learned.

The group in question, Progressives for Obama, also includes among its ranks many former members of the 1960s radical organization Students for a Democratic Society, from which the Weathermen splintered, as well as current and former members of other radical organizations, such as the Communist Party USA and the Black Radical Congress.

Obama’s Assault on the First Amendment

In London last week, a frightful warning was sounded about encroaching tyranny. At an important conference, speaker after impassioned speaker warned of the peril to Western values posed by freedom-devouring sharia — the Islamic legal code. Like all tyrannies, sharia’s first target is speech: Suppress all examination of Muslim radicalism by threats of prosecution and libel actions, and smugly call it “the rule of law.”

But we may already be further gone than the London conferees feared. And without resort to the Islamicization that so startled them. For that, we can thank the campaign of Barack Obama.

I’ll be blunt: Sen. Obama and his supporters despise free expression, the bedrock of American self-determinism and hence American democracy. What’s more, like garden-variety despots, they see law not as a means of ensuring liberty but as a tool to intimidate and quell dissent.

We London conferees were fretting over speech codes, “hate speech” restrictions, “Islamophobia” provisions, and “libel tourism” — the use of less journalist-friendly defamation laws in foreign jurisdictions to eviscerate our First Amendment freedom to report, for example, on the nexus between ostensible Islamic charity and the funding of terrorist operations.

All the while, in St. Louis, local law-enforcement authorities, dominated by Democrat-party activists, were threatening libel prosecutions against Obama’s political opposition. County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, abetted by a local sheriff and encouraged by the Obama campaign, warned that members of the public who dared speak out against Obama during the campaign’s crucial final weeks would face criminal libel charges — if, in the judgment of these conflicted officials, such criticism of their champion was “false.”

What ever happened to equal time in TV advertising for Presidential candidates? Or does this campagn law not apply to Cable or Satellite TV? THE unFAIRNESS DOCTRINE.

Laura wrote, I would complain to the Federal Elections Commision but recently an FEC auditor went public and complained that he had been stopped for investigating Obama For America Contributions by his superiors. Legitimate compalints about over the limit contributions and non-US citizen contributions are not being addressed or investigated by the FEC.

This is a sad day for democracy.

Obama hires CAIR lawyer

Here come another of those “Guilt by Associations” that Senator Barack Obama will try to weasel himself out of. As you may know, Philip Berg is suing Senator Obama in Civil Court. Berg wants Obama to Produce his real birth certificate to prove that he meets the citizenship requirements to be President. Rather than just product the birth certificate (is he trying to hide something?) Obama’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss. Joe Sandler was the CAIR lawyer who sent a letter to the Young America’s Foundation in August 2007, threatening them with legal action if they let me speak to their national student conference. (You can see the letter here.) I spoke anyway (YAF’s Jason Mattera said, “CAIR can go to hell and take their seventy-two virgins with them”), and the threatened lawsuit did not materialize (at least as of this writing, over a year later).

But now here again Obama allies himself with someone who has but scant regard for the freedom of speech. Will he, as President, sacrifice that freedom in an attempt to build the bridges with the Islamic world that he has boasted of being able to build? Here is a full discussion of that possibility.

I hope that Barack Obama, when he becomes President, will become a staunch defender of the First Amendment against attempts by the Muslim Brotherhood and the Organization of the Islamic Conference to limit it or destroy it altogether. But his hiring of Joseph Sandler is not at all reassuring.

Ayers Was on Woods Fund Board with Obama When He Stepped on Flag

Barack Obama was much older than 8 when William Ayers was photographed stepping on a US flag in 2001, for an article in which Ayers said he had “No Regrets” for his violent actions in the Weather Underground.

In fact, at the same time Ayers was in a Chicago alley desecrating the flag, he and Barack Obama were serving on the board of the Woods Fund together.

Liberals Rethink Free Speech

It’s all just a taste of what’s to come if Obama wins and Democrats have even bigger majorities in Congress, emboldening them to try to crush their antagonists once and for all. “Hate is not a family value” was a popular bumper sticker on the left during the 1990s. Now, the left has embraced hate as, if not a family value, the organizing spirit of its long assault on George W. Bush, and anyone else in the way, from Joe Lieberman to Sarah Palin.

America’s partisan politics has always featured its share of rancorous abuse, but there’s something rancid at the heart of the new, blog-driven left that believes its bullying childishness has led the way out of the wilderness. This spirit will inevitably seep into an Obama administration. Whatever Obama’s professions of his commitment to cross-partisan understanding, he’s never confronted the left of his own party and has always been willing to engage in hardball when it suits his purposes.

Little Keith Olbermanns will surely be burrowed throughout his executive branch, eager to chill the speech of the “worst people in the world.”

Obama seeks to take down NRA ad

The Obama campaign has written radio stations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, pressing them to refuse to air an ad from the National Rifle Association.

“This advertisement knowingly misleads your viewing audience about Senator Obama’s position on the Second Amendment,” says the letter from Obama general counsel Bob Bauer. “For the sake of both FCC licensing requirements and the public interest, your station should refuse to continue to air this advertisement.”

The ad, “Hunter,” conflates Obama’s anti-gun stances of the 1990s with his current, more pro-gun, stand, and was chided for inaccuracy in The Washington Post, an item to which Bauer’s letter refers.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam, who provided the letter, said it shows clear evidence that the ads are “hurting him,” and stood by their substance. He also provided a copy of the NRA’s own letter to the stations and memo disputing the Post story, after the jump. He also said the ad is running only in Pennsylvania at the moment.

Why is the University of Mary Washington inhibiting free speech at today’s Obama-Biden rally?

NOT ALL COUNTRIES guarantee their citizens the right to virtually unbridled freedom of speech. The United States does. Would someone please tell the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama? And the dozing guardians of liberty at the University of Mary Washington?

Mr. Obama, the Democratic nominee for president, is scheduled to speak at a rally at the university today. The public is invited to this forum, on property it, the public, owns. However, signs and banners will not be allowed, according to the organizers and compliant campus officials. Suddenly, UMW is a First Amendment-Free, or at least a First Amendment-Crippled, Zone, subject to the self-serving preferences of politicos. Why does an Obama rally–or a McCain rally or a Nader rally–justify taking a little off the top of Americans’ most fundamental rights?

A UMW spokeswoman says that the Obama campaign required the sign-and-banner ban. That campaign tells us that the ban is for “security” reasons. But a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, responsible for protecting presidential candidates, says that the service has no objection to signs at rallies, provided that no “part of the sign could be used as a weapon”–e.g., a heavy metal pole or a sharpened stick. JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. If this allegation is true, Barack Obama needs to do more than grow up. The convention of Mad Marxists proceeds apace and the reknown photographer Zombie is keeping multiple audiences abreast of all of the antics of all the little beasties gathered in Denver. Michelle Obama, I hear, gave a dull and treacly speech, so one imagines that they must have her on a tight leash.

Equally noxious Kennedy idolatry ran rampant while outside the convention walls, on streets braided tightly with police, Michelle Malkin was accosted by frothing-at-the-mouth moonbat Alex Jones, who was screaming, among other absurdities, “Kill Michelle Malkin”. Perhaps he can apply for a job leading Obama’s future Brown Shirts, a role he seems most eminently qualified for.

Perhaps this Alex Jones is a harbinger of what we can expect to be given license from an Obama administration. Barack Obama has clearly signaled that he is not, nor will he be, a friend of free speech.

His “Most Precious” is stamping his feet and demanding the curtailment of the now familiar Ayers ad that suggests that America best give heed to warnings about Obama’s Marxist political roots and ideology.

I’d say Obama is a bit panicked, wouldn’t you? What’cha hiding Barry sweetie?

The Obama campaign — and tens of thousands of supporters — also is pressuring television networks and affiliates to reject the ads. The effort has met with some success: CNN and Fox News are not airing the attacks.

But the ad continues to air widely. Evan Tracey, who tracks campaign advertising at TNS Media Intelligence, said it has been broadcast 150 times in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Michigan. Federal Election Commission reports indicate that Simmons has spent more than $2.8 million buying ads.

The Obama campaign is giving a glimpse of the future for conservative free speech. They’re trying to sic the Justice Department on TV stations, many of them Sinclair Broadcasting stations, that are airing the independent ad on Obama and Bill Ayers.

The “progressives” have long had a problem with speech that displeases them. Recall also a similar stunt by the Clintons over the release of the movie “Path to 911″ . In looking for a link to reference that , I run into a more recent account and I was surprised to learn that the 40 million dollar production was never released as a DVD. Now there is a new documentary out that gives insight into the mechanics of the censorship involved.

Remember the controversy over the ABC miniseries “The Path to 9/11″? For some mysterious reason, it has yet to appear on DVD. Why might that be? Now the story is told in a documentary by John Ziegler that is to be screened tonight at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times reports:

["Blocking The Path to 9/11"] makes the case that former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton have pressured television and studio executives into quashing the DVD release of ABC’s 2006 miniseries “The Path to 9/11.” The privately financed documentary argues that the Clintons, who decried the original miniseries as a right-wing hatchet job, are out to salvage their political influence and legacy at the expense of free expression.

We are informed by Andrew Breitbart that John Ziegler “is a really good guy” who understands the power of media bias. Andrew comments:

Countless movies are being made to affect the culture, the election. One was made that tried to play it straight, and because the Clintons pulled a stunt claiming it was a GOP hit job (what if it was?!), the producers were left holding the bag. A movie that was seen by tens of millions, cost $40 million to make and was stunningly photographed and entertaining, cannot make its way to the public via DVD. It’s pathetic and should outrage everyone.

They say that there is religious tolerance and freedom in Islam, but then, there is always news like this…

A Saudi Arabian Muslim father cut out his daughter’s tongue and lit her on fire upon learning that she had become a Christian.The child became curious about Jesus Christ after she read Christian material online, the Gulf News reported.

Her father read of her Internet conversation, detached her tongue and burned her to death “following a heated debate on religion,” according to an International Christian Concern report.

The father is employed by the muwateen, or Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. The muwateen are police tasked by the government with enforcing religious purity. The man has been taken into custody, and his identity has not been released.

The ICC pointed out the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom has reported textbooks at the Saudi Arabian government school in Northern Virginia teach, “It is permissible for a Muslim to kill an apostate (a convert from Islam).” (Source)

The system does not distinguish between those who have been attacked and those who have chosen to run off with a man.

Sitting among the plastic flowers around his desk, where an optimistic United Nations scales of justice poster competed for space with images of Afghanistan’s President, Hamid Karzai, Colonel Ghulam Ali, a high-ranking regional security officer, explained sternly that he supported the authorities’ right to convict victims of rape. “In Afghanistan whether it is forced or not forced it is a crime because the Islamic rules say that it is,” he claimed. “I think it is good. They say that Islam is a mature and sophisticated belief system, but then they celebrate Ashura every year.

Syed Mustafa Zaidi, 44, is said to have handed the youngsters the implement as members of the Shia community in Manchester celebrated the traditional ceremony of Ashura.The boys, aged 15 and 13, then took turns to flagellate themselves in front of a large crowd of men.

Zaidi, of Eccles, Greater Manchester, is the first person in Britain to be prosecuted over the use of a Zanjeer Zani – a wooden-handled implement fitted with five chains, each of them bearing a curved knife.

Although the practice of self-flagellation is common among Shia Muslims, allowing children to harm themselves is allegedly contrary to British law.

They say that Islam is compatible with Western freedoms, but in country after country, free speech is under attack by Islamists.

To understand what’s at stake, look at the case of Rachel Ehrenfeld, in whose honor it has been nicknamed “Rachel’s Law.” In 2003, Ms. Ehrenfeld, an expert on terrorism who has served as an adviser to the Department of Defense, published “Funding Evil,” a study of how terrorist networks are financed. A Saudi billionaire sued her for libel in Britain, where the burden of proof for such lawsuits is lower than in America. Though only 23 copies of her book had been sold in Britain, its court found against Ms. Ehrenfeld, ordering her to have her book pulped and to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages.

The judgment of the British court cannot be enforced in America. But the cost and burden to Ms. Ehrenfeld of defending the suit sent a message to any writer, or any publisher, contemplating a book on the subject of Islamist terror. “In effect,” wrote a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, Stanley Kurtz, “the Internet-driven internationalization of publishing is nullifying America’s First Amendment protections.”

Islam Loathes Freedom

As the capital of America’s publishing industry, New York is especially vulnerable to this threat. That’s why the State Legislature unanimously passed, and on April 30 Governor Paterson signed, a state version of Rachel’s Law. “New Yorkers must be able to speak out on issues of public concern without living in fear that they will be sued outside the United States, under legal standards inconsistent with our First Amendment rights,” Mr. Paterson said at the time.

The federal law as drafted won’t end all threats of foreign hassling of American-based journalists. We think of Mark Steyn, whose column regularly appears in these pages. Mr. Steyn spent the last year defending himself against charges brought by the Canadian Islamic Congress that an excerpt from his bestselling book “America Alone” suddenly constituted, when it was published in Maclean’s magazine, an incitement to hatred of Muslims. He was not sued in a regular court, with its legal protections and rules of evidence. Instead, he was hauled up before the Canadian Human Rights Commission, an unaccountable tribunal with sweeping powers to stamp out any speech it considers offensive.

After coming in for unprecedented public criticism over the Steyn case, the commission eventually dismissed the charges against him, though a case before the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal is still pending. The Ehrenfeld and Steyn cases are but two examples in a trend that prompted the New Criterion magazine, along with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, to host in April a conference on “Free Speech in the Age of Jihad.” The proceedings have just been issued as a pamphlet, underscoring that across the Western world, legal and quasi-legal mechanisms are being used to try to block open criticism of Islam or of prominent Muslims. Bloggers with Focus on Kosovo/Balkans, Soros, Free Speech

Well, here is an experiment. There are so many topics that I wish I could cover in this blog that just never make it to a post. I especially wish I could dig deeper and write more about the Balkans, Kosovo in particular. Soros could fill several books. I have been fooling myself to imagine that I could tackle any of these subjects with any type of depth and still keep up daily here. It’s one thing to throw up small posts, it’s another thing to dissect an issue thoroughly and offer any cogent argument for or against, with requisite documentation to support the conclusions reached. I have no illusion that my words carry weight in and of themselves.

So the experiment is to solicit writers/bloggers who may have a particular interest in the following:

• Soros
• Kosovo/Serbia/The Balkans
• Free Speech Issues

I am more than willing to share the links and research I have gathering dust in Diigo. I don’t fool myself in thinking I can do any damage to Soros. By the same token, it can’t hurt to describe his multifarious reach throughout the globe. People are usually stunned when made aware of his agenda and how thoroughly it is being implemented.

I also really doubt the accounts of Kosov, Serbia fed to us by mainstream. Nor do we have a full account of the growing muslim presence in the Balkans and America’s damnably unfortunate role in facilitating it.

The importance of covering the encroaching restrictions on speech go without saying. I fear that too many are asleep on this issue as well. So, the more info out there, the better.

Lig and I would appreciate any serious interest. Email either one of us ( see right sidebar) or leave a comment. Sad to say, I can’t pay. And I would add that some may hesitate because of the acerbic and combative tone I tend to maintain in here. (Ligneus is far more gracious) I am willing to discuss ameliorating that a bit. Obama’s Minions Suppress Free Speech

Blacks, Jews, Palestinians and Barack Obama

I am reposting in full a piece written by Kola Boof. The link was given in a comment to my post, Barack Obama Needs to Suggest to the Arabs that They Pony Up With Their Reparations.

I am not familiar with Miss Boof’s work or her political views, but I do think she is sadly mistaken in her support for Obama. However, she speaks eloquently of her love for Israel, and such sentiments are always welcome on this blog.

More to the point, she exhibits courage that is sadly lacking amongst Western journalists. She speaks the truth about Islam and Israel and thus has earned herself a fatwa condemning her to death by beheading. She finds sanctuary now in America.

Which leads me to mention this, though not directly pertaining to the topic of this post, it is critical for Americans to come to grips with the noose tightening around our throats. At The Midnight Sun a very important discussion is going on about the severe threat that freedom of speech is under in Canada and throughout the West. If we in the West do not rise up to save such a fundamental freedom, Miss Boof will no longer find sanctuary in America either. None of us will.
So read the words of one who faces death for saying them. If Americans do not wake up, we will all soon face the same.

Obama’s Support of Israel and Not Palestine

You constantly hear the “African Americans” despair over Obama’s support of
Israel and not Palestine–but that’s because the Black Americans (who are only
400 years old, which is a “baby”) do not have the FACTS.

As a Black Person from North Africa…I also support Israel over Palestine.

The Israelis don’t purchase Black African slaves as the Palestinians do and the
Israelis don’t sterilize black women so as to use them as sex slaves.

Dinka girl children are purchased from Sudan for $14 a piece and you can find them
in Arab territorities like Palestine, Syria and Jordan with their tongues cut out
and working in Arab kitchens.

I have lived in Israel, and other than the troops in the street, it was very much like
living in the United States.

If I had to find a husband–I could get one in Israel, but not in Palestine.

The White Israeli man is less colorstruck than the Brown-skinned Palestinian man.

The Palestinians, who used to be “black”, have a notorious fear of producing black
babies and returning to their former dark coloring. That’s why they prefer to
sterilize black little girls before using them as sex slaves.

The Israelis also don’t have a word like “abeed” that denigrates the black race,
a word that all Arabs (including the Palestinians) use on a daily basis.

Israel is a White, Racist nation…in the same way that the United States is a White,
Racist nation. It’s definitely no worse than here.

But Palestine and the Arab world is much worse.

No black woman who has been free would ever want to live in the Arab nations
unless she was a “mulatto” Black American—because then, she would not be
considered “black” by the Arabs and could enjoy taking part in their colorist
racism.

Of course, Black Americans are notoriously IGNORANT about what the Arab world
USES THEM for in relation to leverage in American Politics and have not actually
attempted to live in these colorstruck racist fanatical Arab Muslim countries that they so romanticize.

The only time I’ve ever heard Palestinians and Arabs talk their “brown brother” b.s.
is over here in the United States where they have a political agenda that requires
the support of Black Americans.

But go to North Africa and see what they’re talking.

And of course Black American MEN have a particular fondness for Muslim countries,
because of the chronic “sexism” that less powerful men have always craved in their
struggle to feel more like men.

In my opinion, being covered up from head to toe and being told that “woman is impure”
is nothing more than enslavement of the soul. Women’s bodies are not dirty and the
woman’s menstrual cycle is the symbol of humanity itself, so it’s an abomination against
God for women to be covered up and marginalized in this way.

And, as far as I’m concerned, both Christianity and Islam are the two worse things that
ever happened to the African continent.

Naturally, my comments on this issue have caused me to be demonized, lied on and
discredited by all manner of Oil Company, Black American Pro-Palestine speaker and
Arab-American millionaire businessmen who pay the media to silence those of us from
North Africa who dare expose “brown brothers” of the Arab Empire for what they really
are–but yet and still, I am the more powerful one.

As an African mother, I will always support powerful white Israel before oppressed
brown Palestine.

As one of my poems says: “the slave is the devil, too.”

And because Palestine knows so well about the evils of oppression, it is all the more
shocking and unacceptable that they consider Black Africans to be mere “animals”
and “abeed” unworthy of full human recognition–yet expect me to march in the streets
for their greasy rat faced asses just because they raped a black woman and waved
their fists in their air.

No. What I want as National Chairwoman of the SSPP is guns and ammunition from
Israel.

That is what South Sudan needs.

The lesser devil can be used by Blacks in Sudan as we struggle to fight back
against the Imperialist Arab Empire.

It’s one of the reasons I love and support Barack Obama—because he’s for Israel.

Muslims Silencing the World by the West’s Consent

Seppo Lehto, seen in the first video here, has been described as a “notorious hatemonger”, racist and other epithets. I do not really care. Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t. In a saner time, those who made themselves unappealing to society at large were shunned, perhaps mocked, and finally, ignored. They certainly were not jailed for holding those views and expressing them. As long as no physical or financial harm came to anyone, the freedom to express hatred, or scorn, or mockery has always been protected.

The whole issue of what offends and what does not, should be dismissed out of hand, with anti-religious and anti-free speech laws being stricken from the books. The realm of where things should be decided is in the public sector, with racist idiots like Seppo Lehto being confined to the ash heap in peoples minds, not being incarcerated in a cell for two years.

Most of what can be said of Seppo Lehto’s numerous websites, is that they are for the most part,..parodies, nothing that anyone could be close to believing that they were true. lehto’s actions have been widely known for few years, and posed no danger to society, due to his being written off as a crank. In other words, not to be taken seriously.

And then along comes allah and his possess of caterwauling muslims and the world is turned upside down.
See, Lehto is going to go to jail for expressing his views and he is one of a growing number world wide who are loosing their freedoms because muslims are offended, and, I might add, because PC-multiculturalism has castrated the West.

Unfortunately, one can’t choose only the most noble and upstanding people as defendants in civil liberties cases. When it comes to the suppression of free speech, authorities are more likely to pick off the stragglers — the unpopular, unpleasant, and unattractive media personalities who inhabit the fringes of public discourse.

Seppo Lehto is one such character, and now he has just been convicted and sentenced for inciting ethnic hatred. He will spend more than two years in prison for posting his noxious opinions on his blog. In many ways, Finland is leading the way in the repression of free speech. Britain generates more cases, but the Finns have been prosecuting theirs more effectively and imposing harsher punishments.” (Source)

However, if your are a Muslim, you can say the most heinous things about Jews and Christians and you are granted an audience and an interview. Jihadist videos espousing hatred for, well, just about everything not muslim, are doing a damn good business everywhere on the internet.. Even more so because the YouTube Nazis cater to that element, but regularly censor any videos of any nature that criticizes Islam.

And then there are the thousands of imams and clerics spewing jihad from their mosques, islamic schools indoctrinating muslim children to hate the Sunday and the Saturday” people ,and rabid muslim activists screaming their vituperation at “protests”. The video below is just one example of thousands that depict what is permitted out of a muslim’s mouth without any repercussions at all.

While jackals like the muslim above freely roam the street and towns of Europe, Christians ministers preaching the Gospel, a Gospel of love no less, are being threatened, mugged, discriminated against and silenced.

The evangelists say they were threatened with arrest for committing a “hate crime” and were told they risked being beaten up if they returned. The incident will fuel fears that “no-go areas” for Christians are emerging in British towns and cities, as the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, the Bishop of Rochester, claimed in The Sunday Telegraph this year.

Arthur Cunningham, 48, and Joseph Abraham, 65, both full-time evangelical ministers, have launched legal action against West Midlands Police, claiming the officer infringed their right to profess their religion. (Source)

Are westerners so ready to lay down and give up? Have they become some feminized, so bereft of pride, courage, and will? If so, I’d say we deserve what we get. Except the generations we bequeath the results of cowardice to ,do not.
Do us all a favor, at least here in America. When you hear of legislation for hate speech and hate crimes, call your congress critter up and tell them in no uncertain terms that you are holding on as tightly to free speech as you are to your gun. Because if you don’t, I guarantee you, someday you may have to use that gun in defense of it.

Dramatic photos show a Marine’s narrow escape from death Sunday while facing insurgent gunfire in Afghanistan. The Marine, part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), was exchanging gunfire with Taliban fighters near Garmser in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province when a Reuters photographer capturedthe soldier’s very close call.

A series of six photos show the Marine, wearing a T-shirt and fatigues but no combat helmet, ducking as insurgent gunfire tears through the top of a mud wall he’s using for cover. Remarkably, the Marine escaped the gunfight without injury. “The insurgents are finding that every time they engage with the Marines, they lose,” Col. Peter Petronzio, commander of the 24th MEU, said in a statement issued May 10.

The Dutch authorities have arrested the cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot (a pseudonym. Nekschot means deathblow, litt: “shot in the back of the neck” [An interview with Nekschot here]). The judicial authorities in Amsterdam said yesterday that the cartoonist was arrested as a suspect for the criminal offense of “publishing cartoons which are discriminating for Muslims and people with dark skin.”

Back up there…discriminating for Muslims and people with dark skin? There are Muslims and there are people with dark skin. One is a biological, genetic identity and one is a choice of belief. When we criticize extremist Muslims who saw off people’s heads and rape small children, we are not attacking anyone’s skin colour, nor anybody living quietly minding their own business. This is about a sober-minded resistance to the breakdown of our society by destroyers of any ideology. How dare they lump in an aversion to dark skin with my legitimate aversion to and criticism of an influx of ideologies into our societies which will destroy us from the inside.
If Nekschot is being arrested on a certain precedental ‘hate speech’ complaint, (despite his gutter-level humor), shame on the Dutch police and for the lawmakers who are trying to make all of us sound like mindless racists by slipping in the ‘dark skin’ phrase. This is going to pave the way for other critics such as you and I to be arrested on the same pretexts.

Ferocious 72 Year Old French Icon a Threat to Islam

And for saying the truth, speaking mere words, Miss Bardot faces prosecution. And no one cares. It is interesting that the left found Bridgette Bardot very useful in her role as a defender of animals, but they don’t seem to be able to muster up much support for Miss Bardot in her defense of humans. Ooops, silly me. Progressives always prefer animals to humans. Given that they, and muslims, wish to reduce civilization to the level of barn yard animals, one is not too surprised.

Brigitte Bardot is only saying what the majority of French are saying. Do they have enough courts to prosecute all these millions? Besides, what they’re saying is not the fruit of their imagination, it’s just facts that even the blinds can’t deny.

Nicolas Sarkozy himself called muslims, thugs, during their islamic Intefada in Paris and other French cities, and his tough stand boosted his popularity, and contributed to his election.

It is also worth noting that the French Minister of Justice, Rachida Dati, is a muslim.

Bardot has previously said France is being invaded by sheep-slaughtering Muslims and published a book attacking immigrants and the unemployed, in which she also lamented the “Islamisation of France”.

The Media Tentacles of Ameri-phobe George Soros

Censorship comes riding in on many a dark horse. On one horse rides anal-retentive little Napoleons like Richard Warman, commanding the imperious storm troopers manning the Canadian “Human Rights” Commission. Other horses steal in bearing very powerful men, men who have deemed themselves guardians of the media gate, deciding what the masses are permitted to see and read and think. Men intent upon shaping the world according to their suffocating utopian vision. Men apparently so frightened of American power and exceptionalism that they are willing to spill treasure, perpetrate treason, and deploy millions solely to eradicate it. Obama supporter George Soros is singing in Jeremiah Wright’s choir.

Let’s sing it one more time. “God Damn America”.

If the Warmans of the world are noisome mosquitoes sucking at the blood of freedom, gluttonous men like George Soros are the cannibals gorging wholesale on the flesh, smirking lips dripping with the blood of their gore while their leftist minions wince and whine about Rupert Murdoch and the oh-so radical right wing.

Not too many commentators seem to have noticed that George Soros is slowly but surely becoming the mainstream media that is the focus of the analysis we do at NewsBusters. The liberal billionaire-turned-philanthropist has been buying up media properties for years in order to drive home his message to the American public that they are too materialistic, too wasteful, too selfish, and too stupid to decide for themselves how to run their own lives.

As Capital Research Center (my employer) reported in a recent paper, three years ago Soros acquired 2.6 million shares of the huge diversified media company Time Warner. In 2006 his companies, Soros Strategic Partners and Dune Capital Management, paid $900 million to buy the DreamWorks SKG film library from Viacom, a move that gave Soros the DVD and rebroadcasting rights to films such as Saving Private Ryan (1998), Gladiator (2000), and American Beauty (1999). As James Hirsen noted, the transaction gives Soros “some highly desirable film rights at a time when the marketing and distribution model is changing to video on demand, video iPods and other forms of digital distribution.” But more importantly, it gives Soros “a presence in Hollywood where likeminded libs are ready, willing and able to collaborate in cinematic social engineering.” Soros is also a funder, whether directly or indirectly, of Media Matters for America, the reflexively liberal noise machine and pretended media watchdog whose modus operandi is to mau-mau the media into mouthing the politically correct platitudes that pass for profound insights on the far left.

Soros is also venturing into media overseas. Earlier this year Soros Fund Management plunked down $100 million for 3% of India’s Reliance Entertainment, a $3 billion conglomerate that aims to provide Internet-based TV programs in India. Reliance also churns out movies and owns movie houses, radio stations and social networking websites in the country with one of the fastest growing economies in the world. When in the 1980s Soros set up offices in Eastern Europe for his philanthropy, the Open Society Institute (OSI), he helped to finance publishers, independent TV and radio outlets, and political parties.

Soros has long been a player in Hollywood. As Rondi Adamson reported in “George Soros, Movie Mogul: ‘Social Justice’ Cinema and the Sundance Institute,” (Foundation Watch, March 2008), OSI has been underwriting “social justice” documentaries since 1996, and in 2001 Soros let actor-director Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute take over his Soros Documentary Fund (since rechristened the Soros/Sundance Documentary Fund).
