A Symbiotic and Dangerous Tryst: Islam and the Left

I have been playing around with different templates and when switching back to this one, I lost the ability to display the comments left on the “About Sassy” page. Thus, G. Singer’s comment was buried, my apologies,  but I do want to respond to it.

Sass: you make the mistake of equating ‘lefty’, ‘liberal’, ‘progressive’, or whatever, with being cozy with Islam. I freely admit that most of my family and friends are progressive, Dem-voting left-leaners. And every one of us supports Israel to the fullest, despises the Islamofascist crap taking over parts of the world, and supports justified wars like the one in Afghanistan. I feel the same anger you feel about Obama whenever another of our great servicemen or women dies in Iraq. I come from a military family (Uncle is 2-star General, dad was in 101st airborne) and I am very educated about what war means. I try not to lump all Republicans into one net of “evil fascist constitution shredders.’ It’s hard, I try. Maybe you should try to see ‘leftists’ as individuals, too.

‘lefty’, ‘liberal’, ‘progressive’

For the sake of this conversation  I’ll use the term leftist.

The left cozy with Islam? If they ain’t cozy, then they sure as hell don’t rub each other the wrong way in the ideological bed that they share. CAIR and other muslim apologists are riding on the coattail of every so-call “social justice” organization that they can hustle, using the same lawsuit intimidation tactics as Jessie Jackson or the ACLU. And their objectives are quite similar; the eradication of Christian influence, the destruction of Israel, censorship under the guise of “hate speech” laws, the end of profiling, a diminished role for America in the world, destruction of capitalism, accommodation to the third world and the middle east – to name just a few items where the left and islamists are in concordance.

The left and islam share the same ideological root system. Call it nihilism, call it post-modern, progressivism, call it anything you wish -  it is a root that produces a virulently anti-human, anti-freedom fruit. You have a selection of totalitarian doctrines that all contend that humans must be collected and herded like cattle, seen as economical units, expendable when too costly to maintain. It all denigrates man into beings less than animals, bereft of individual will and value. Indeed the left elevates animals and reviles man. Muslims and leftists both espouse ideologies that would reduce man to utter misery.

The writer of this post says it quite well. I would add that it is far from an isolated opinion, but the consensus of those who have spent the last several years studying this.

The onset of the 21st Century saw a revival of Leftist radicalism. While the old 1968 hippy generation saw it’s ideals drowned in a cesspool of drugs and experiments in social licentiousness, Post modernism has shed itself of all values: life is futile, man’s efforts are absurd in their presumptuousness and arrogance.

This radical Left movement is just as ready for a scorched earth as radical Islamism is. Whereas the former have nothing left to lose after their ideals collapsed over their ears, the latter are urged to self-sacrifice for a global victory of the collective Ummah. It is a marriage quite literally made in hell: both are negators of the life-force, but for different reasons.

A culture’s implicit sense of life is all-pervasive. Theirs has translated into the negative territory of nihilism and death-worship. For Muslims man is a mere plaything in the hands of a fickle God. To Postmodernists man is a drifter in a purposeless, unknowable universe whose fate is determined by chaos and glandular secretions.

And this is how we got here.
Let’s Get it Right

I try not to lump all Republicans into one net of “evil fascist constitution shredders”.

Certainly you jest. With Obama on record as having taken shots at the constitution throughout his public career, including in his latest overblown speech – surely you do not think the constitution is now safe? And the constitution has been being “shredded” over the course of many decades by all political persuasions – persuasions that all share the same root of antipathy towards the west.

Maybe you should try to see ‘leftists’ as individuals, too.

I do. They are individuals whom I oppose.  I see no grounds for compromise and I care not a whit if a leftist rants  against islam at the top of his lungs if he refuses to see the similarities between it and socialism or Marxism. Of what good are their protests, ala Christopher Hitchens, if they turn around and advocate for a form of government as intrusive and dehumanizing?

Perhaps the left does not recognize their spiritual cousins because they still are carrying around the debunked and discredited Edward Said Orientalism model. Perhaps because they continue to reduce a blood thirsty, beheading jihadist down to the level of an annoying criminal. Maybe, because the left is incapable of naming evil, they are unable to discern the evil in their own and islam’s doctrines. Whatever the reason for the blind spot, the fact remains that, short of divine intervention, the left and islam will lead this world to hell. How they destroy each other along the way will make an interesting, if tragic, sideshow.

And perhaps the collusion between the Hamas jihadists and the world’s leftest communities escaped your attention.  Looks pretty damn cozy to me.

No one shouted “Go Back to the Oven” at the pro-Hamas rallies held in Atlanta in the last few days, but the sentiment was echoed in the messages their organizers promoted. Islamic fundamentalists spouted their hatred at the gatherings far-Left activists called to protest Israel’s self-defense. The unholy alliance met at the CNN Center January 3rd and at the Israeli consulate the previous Tuesday, where CAIR members and Communists blocked traffic, endorsed the annihilation of Israel, dressed in terrorist garb, extolled those plotting a new Holocaust, and equated Jewish self-defense with Nazi genocide.

The tone should be no surprise considering who organized these events. The organizational force behind both was the Atlanta chapter of the International Action Center (IAC). An e-mail from the IAC indicated that Emory Advocates for Justice in Palestine, Athens for Justice in Palestine, and other “peace and justice organizations” would be involved. On site, I discovered these “peace and justice organizations” included the once-laudable Amnesty International – alongside, the International Socialist Organization and the Revolutionary Communist Party. Urban radicalism in Europe as portrayed by the recent riots in Athens is a constant worry of the European security services, since there is ample evidence of wider connections between radicals and terrorists.

The information came after the Italian intelligence services tapped the phones of the Italian terrorist group shortly before the group was about to launch new attacks.

In the same country, popular youth radical magazines such as “Voce” propagate with great enthusiasm the works of Hizballah and Hamas. It is also public knowledge that radical NGOs across continental Europe support illegal immigration into Europe and express a great interest in attacking any traditional aspects of contemporary Western civilization and culture.

I have a sister. My sister is hardly a conservative. She called me today. She wants advice and support from me to go gun shopping because she feels she needs to buy a firearm for home defense.

I spent my vacations this year travelling around the West. Folks were curious, interested, incredibly polite, totally genuine, warm, friendly, completely open and honest. They lived and worked outdoors, and really did look and act like can-do, energetic Frontiersmen. I would have been honored to call any of them Friend if I had known them better.

They’ll come under fierce attack in the coming years, as the powers that be will try to eradicate their heritage and imposing The New Thinking.

You’ll see George Soros and Warren Buffett amass fortunes vastly greater than the ones they already have.

Ye Shall Know Them By Their Fruit…..

A good rule of thumb when judging anyone is to see if their actions match their words. Just like the biblical axiom abjures us to observe , the fruit of an individual’s life is evidence of who they are. And the fruit the Obama’s have lying about in their fields and orchards are rather void of caloric content. Indeed, most of it is poisonous. The choices that the Obamas have made in their lives have little resemblance to the choices they facilely demand that Americans make.

Barack Hussein Obama:

Obama, however, excludes himself from charitable obligations or brotherly kindnesses. Personally, I’d prefer the crumbs from the “selfish” wealthy to the fictional parities of “economic justice”. I can run with those capitalist crumbs, make them into a damn cake if I am so inclined.  In Obama’s world there will be no cake – just “brothers” like him.

And as far as that “balance” he was trying to achieve, it doesn’t tilt towards having a heart for his hut dwelling brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama or his Aunt Zeituni. The “fruit” that Obama’s family gets from his socialist tree is far more representative of the “justice ” that a socialist reality will deliver than any of Obama’s slick words.

All Charisma, No Heart

How can Obama spare thousands for Chicago’s Muntu Theater of African dance, while allowing his 56-year-old Aunt Zeituni, about whom he reminisces fondly in his best-selling “Dreams From My Father,” to live in a South Boston slum, as exposed by the Times of London this week? While Obama was swimming in well over $600 million in cash contributions, his underprivileged Kenyan-born auntie actually sent his campaign a modest donation.

A 2003 Associated Press story profiling poor people who buy lottery tickets at check-cashing stores apparently quotes Obama’s Aunt Zeituni, describing her as unemployed and cash-strapped.

Obama’s Uncle Omar, also described affectionately in his book, was apparently evicted from his Boston home in 2000 after losing his job. Then there is Obama’s 26-year-old half brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, discovered by the Italian edition of Vanity Fair to be living in a hovel near Nairobi, claiming to earn “less than a dollar a month.”

It’s funny how Obama can sell his memoir exploiting his relatives and humanize himself for voters, yet be too busy getting ready to change the world to be there for them when they need a hand…

Who knows how many other poor kinfolk Obama has relegated to the shadows. Perhaps, like his Aunt, they have all been instructed to keep their lips sealed. It is very striking to note, again, how controlling Obama is. How obfuscating and evasive he is about his past.

Speaking outside her home in Flaherty Way, South Boston, on Tuesday, Ms Onyango, 56, confirmed she was the “Auntie Zeituni” in Mr Obama’s memoir. She declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the November 4 election. “I can’t talk about it, I just pray for him, that’s all,” she said, adding: “After the 4th, I can talk to anyone.” (Source)

Michelle Obama, while unleashed, provided ample evidence that she doesn’t walk her talk. Her stilted attempt to assume the role of a “proud American” has been unconvincing. But she is a fine fit for her brooding husband, her anger fueling his perpetual angst. Her laughable pose of righteous indignation when being called out for her hypocrisy falls flat and flaccid when measured next to the thinly veiled antipathy of her words. And her words are simply the stale rhetoric of her political class, void of authenticity, trading in lies. She indeed is her husbands match.

“Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Under a three-book deal which he subsequently-signed, he stands to earn at least £1million.

To Joe Novak, this only goes to prove that Michelle is distorting reality when she attempts to depict herself as a champion of the masses.

“For the past year (she and Barack) have jetted around the country with Oprah Winfrey and Robert De Niro, enjoying penthouse parties and living the high life,” he said.

Perhaps…. she genuinely may think that her childhood was impoverished. And the one thing that is certain about the incredible Mrs O is that she never intends to have to live that way again.

If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it I’d be o.k. But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendancy to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that.

Smaller U.S. Banks Resist Federal Cash Infusion, But May Be Forced To Take It.

The opposition suggested that the government may have to continue to press banks to participate in the plan. The first $125 billion will be divided among nine of the largest U.S. banks, which were forced to accept the investment to help destigmatize the program in the eyes of other institutions.

In rolling out the program, Treasury said it would make the rest of the money available to banks that requested it. Officials said they expected thousands of banks to participate.

Both the American Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers of America said that they knew of few banks that planned to participate.

“I’m not sure we’ve heard from any that want to participate,” said Karen Thomas, vice president for government relations at the community bankers group, which represents about 5,000 banks. “That said, if any community banks do enroll, we anticipate it will be just a small minority.”

Federal regulators said they did expect some banks to volunteer, though none stepped forward yesterday. But they added that they would not rely on volunteers. Treasury will set standards for deciding which banks can be helped, and the regulatory agencies will triage the banks they oversee: The institutions faring best and worst will not receive investments. The institutions in the middle, whose fortunes could be improved by putting a little more money in the bank, will be pushed to accept the money from the government.

“We will encourage institutions to apply,” said John C. Dugan, the comptroller of the currency, who oversees most of the nation’s largest banks.

In return for its investments, Treasury will receive preferred shares of bank stock that pay 5 percent interest for up to five years. After that, if the companies haven’t repaid the government’s initial investment, the interest rate goes up to 9 percent.

Speech, Guns, Parental Rights – Best Be Ready to Fight for Them

You have to hand it to those reprogressives. They are predictable and consistent. And my prediction is that should Barack Obama assume office, parents will have to have as firm a grip on their children as they do their guns. Assuming we still have rights to them at all, because trust me – they want them. After all, you can’t have knuckle dragging Neanderthals inculcating the next generation with traditional values or love of country.

In fact, Obama’s buddy, William Ayers, think that children serve as fodder for revolution.

Still more evidence of how the media are in the tank for Obama was evident in Tom Brokaw’s description of Ayers on Sunday’s “Meet The Press.”

“School reformer” is how Brokaw identified the co-founder of the Weather Underground, the radical organization that, among other activities, bombed government buildings, banks, police departments and military bases in the early 1970s.

Yeah, right: Ayers is a school reformer in the same sense, as City Journal’s Sol Stern put it, as Joe Stalin was an agricultural reformer.

An idea of what Ayers has in mind for America’s schools was provided in his own words not 40 years ago when Obama was eight years old, but less than two years ago in November 2006 at the World Education Forum in Caracas hosted by dictator Hugo Chavez.

With Chavez at his side, Ayers voiced his support for “the political educational reforms under way here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution. . . . I look forward to seeing how . . . all of you continue to overcome the failures of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane.”

Ayers told the great humanitarian Chavez: “Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions large and small. La educacion es revolucion.” It is that form of socialist revolution that Ayers, and Obama, have worked to bring to America.

On a related note, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama wants to create a “Zero to Five Plan” that would, as his Web site states, emphasize “education for infants, which is essential for children to be ready to enter kindergarten.” The plan also calls for helping “states move toward voluntary, universal pre-school.”

And my question simply is, why? So Obama will have a few extra years to stuff sex education down their throats?

“Research shows disparate results (of pre-kindergarten programs),” Don Soifer, executive vice president of the conservative Lexington Institute, told CNSNews.com.

The research has also shown that such programs can cause behavioral problems in some children, he said.

But panelists at the briefing said the idea is to put a “certified public teacher” in charge of voluntary pre-K programs who will help children adequately prepare for school.

When asked by CNSNews.com if teachers were better than parents at preparing their children for school, Gov. Bredesen said it took a “joint effort.”(Source)

To which I say, bullshit. Given the abysmal “youth” that public education has managed to churn out so far, what the hell could be a rational basis for such an asinine assertion.

Actually, I am not certain that socialism is any more the proper term for what the good folk have in mind for us, at least not socialism in the classic text book sense.

So really, these people are not so much socialists as they are social engineers. Have you ever watched a man in a strait jacket? You immediately start feeling claustrophobic, a sense of confinement, a tightening of the chest. Or, recall the familiar vexation felt when watching a horror flick’s usual fool walking straight into the maw of a monster.

That is what I feel like as I witness America stumble.

At first, after 9.11, before I realized that liberals had become socialists, I was astounded that they didn’t “get it” on islam. As time went on, I became increasingly amazed that they were silent when artists, bloggers, writers across Europe and in Canada were silenced, or murdered, by muslims. And hate speech? To have reached a point where the NYT dares to suggest that there really ought to be restriction to free speech?!? The chill really started seeping into my marrow when I finally realized that the left certainly does “get it”, worse, they want it.

Which brings up another image from cinema.

You’ll remember the movie Independence Day? In one of the scenes a stripper, a friend of Will Smith’s girlfriend, is giddy with excitement at the prospect of aliens visiting earth. She apparently sees nothing ominous as huge crafts take positions hovering over cities across the globe. She just assumes they came with good will. When she gets off work she puts a crayoned sign together proclaiming an exuberant welcome and goes to the top of a skyscraper with hundreds of others to wave her sign in greeting. It isn’t until the last second that she realizes that the portal opening in the bottom of the spacecraft is delivering a devastating terminal force.

That’s what the ululations and mass hysteria surrounding Obama reminds me of. Americans now enthused over Obama are very much like that dim witted chick. Unknowingly, they  welcome the impending death of their country.

Socialism, the curtailment of basic freedoms, is like an alien entity hovering over our nation and Obama is most emphatically the model for “the new socialist man.”

The excerpts that follow are from a site I just discovered – Veteran-American Voices. Every post I have read there confirms that some dark times are coming if Americans do not finally get a clue. And like the cinematic fools walking to their death, America walks – no – marches, with spirited cadence to hers.

If you scoff at the idea of socialism in the US, I suggest you spend some time on the linked site. If you can’t recognize the threat represented in Obama and the so-called progressives, well, why don’t you just go and get some crayons and do up a sign for Obama. And don’t say you weren’t warned.

A free people do not readily give up their freedom and submit to government control. This must be achieved by stages and by manipulation, though strictly for the masses’ own good of course. Our new social engineers seek to capture the commanding heights of social organization. Many of the political controversies of recent years are of strictly secondary importance. Winning on such an issue as Social Security abortion, or minimum wage may consolidate a particular point of conflict, but will offer no leverage or great strategic advantage for future clashes. Three important areas are the war for mass transportation, for domination of education, and for public healthcare.

We are told that the current fuel crisis is all about oil shortages. But that idea is debunked by the vast unutilized oil finds in the USA and elsewhere. We are told that we cannot touch that oil for fear of spoiling the natural beauty of the desert tundra in a small corner of ANWR or disturbing the breeding ground of the Alaskan mosquito. Nonsense. That oil has been left untouched because those making the decisions want a fuel scarcity and elevated prices in order to discourage private driving. Back in the 1990s, and even into the 1970s, those people spoke of a desire to see the price of oil raised and to see private driving curtailed. In addition to trying to raise the price of gasoline and make it less available through complicated programs mandating a wide variety of additives, they have also taken numerous other measures designed to handicap car drivers. Fuel tax revenues supposedly dedicated by law to road and bridge maintenance are regularly diverted to subsidize construction of urban rail projects and similar mass transit programs. Likewise the same for reluctance to build or widen existing roads. Special privileges and lanes are allocated for busses and other high occupancy vehicles. In some states, yearly emission checks for private cars are used for harassment. Speed traps and traffic light cameras serve not only to raise city revenues, but also to harass drivers. Ditto for random checkpoints for sobriety and seatbelt use. In some cities, they like to use extra wide, and extra long articulated busses which can cause safety problems for cars trying to use the same roads. While some of these measures can be defended on other grounds, together, they collude to present a clear message to drivers – take the bus or we’ll make your day impossible. Nor can this drive be justified by reference to pollution – ever noticed how much smelly pollution comes from your average city bus?

But of course, from a different perspective, these disadvantages are actually great advantages. The planners can determine where you can go, and where you cannot. And when. Transportation is not for getting you where you want to be, but where you’re supposed to be. If you work for a significant corporation, factory or government office, there will be transportation available at the appointed times. If it’s a small office, you should be carpooling with three or more other workers. And its really not social for you to work alone.

Another benefit is that traveling in a group is good for your attitude. If you are all alone every day on a long commute, you may start to think by yourself and get ideas. That’s bad. Or you may listen to a radio station, and that could be even worse. But if you are with three or four casual acquaintances who are assigned to your carpool, you will each serve as an inhibition on the others, no telling of politically incorrect jokes or listening to heretical ideas on the AM band. What if you heard Imus say something terribly inappropriate, and one of your riders were to laugh inappropriately? Like Japanese schoolgirls on vacation or Soviet sailors on shore leave, it is much better for citizens to travel in groups, lest someone might say or do something unthinkable. This is a part of our new reality in which everyone should be organized and every activity part of an official league. Just as stickball must be eliminated in favor of Little League. Apart from the group is danger, only within the group shall be certainty and safety.

Once travel, even for short distances becomes an expense and a major burden, people will need to move in and live closer to their place of work and where they shop. Gradually it will save the pristine countryside from the further spread of suburbanization. And it may even gradually roll back the suburbs. And that’s good. People can be kept under better control. If they can’t travel out to the countryside, groups like the Michigan Militia won’t be able to shoot or practice their militias, won’t be able to conspire their horrid resistance. People can live in closely packed little condos, and tightly-knit, carefully planned communities. No more wasteful and polluting barbecues. Integration and affirmative action will be able to proceed to their desired completion. True, it will mean visits to Disney World will be rare, but then Disney is tacky anyway. Citizens should use their free time for mandatory volunteer work for the community, giving something back as they say, and for consciousness raising sessions to remind them how good they have it, now that they no longer have to deal with road traffic and driving lessons, and such. See how much better life will be, how much warmer community will be once the social engineers have restored us to the immobility that nature intended.

Barack Hussein Obama never ceases to horrify me. What is even more horrifying are the flocks of pliant pissants who will applaud his coerced cruise on the Good Ship Lollipop.

He said surveys show today’s youth, a group sometimes called the “9/11 generation,” is deeply attracted to service and has maintained that interest, even as it has fallen off for other age groups following the attacks in 2001.

“It may represent a real shift to interest in community service,” Goldsmith said

Yeah, more like community servitude. Nothing engenders more disgust in me than this miasmic, rabid pseudo-altruism.

With that environment behind him, Obama outlined several proposals to boost service, both at home and abroad, during a speech in Colorado Springs.

“Loving your country shouldn’t just mean watching fireworks on the 4th of July,” he said. “Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it. If you do, your life will be richer, our country will be stronger.”

Oh spare me, please. Obama has no love for America, just plans to downsize it into a third world _amerikka. How can he continuously insult every principle upon which she was founded, none of which include indoctrinating youth with socialist claptrap. How dare he use the word “must” mean. Who is going to enforce all of your “musts”, Obama? Are you also going to create a “volunteer” division of your own “religious police” like your buddy Ahmadinejad in Iran?

Loving America is preserving the constitution, as written, backing the government out of the schools, out of business, out of freaking “faith based initiatives”, and out of our wallets and lives. It is allowing individuals to live the life that they damn well choose in “pursuit of happiness” – not the happiness of their neighbor, the homeless and for sure, not the happiness of the freaking third world. From such a free and prosperous people has poured forth the greatest generosity that this world has ever witnessed. No one asked you to redefine what constitutes love of country, Obama, nor, by implication, to disparage a legacy of benevolence that is unparalleled in the world.

It is not the business of America nor the purview of her government to act as nanny and doormat for the poor. Give this man a freaking church. Hand the Glass Cathedral over to him – it certainly soars as high as his ego. But do.not.give.him the presidency of the United States of America.

Obama promised to increase AmeriCorps slots from 75,000 to 250,000 and pledged to double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011.

Presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona also supports an expansion of both programs and has stressed public service, including in the military, during campaign appearances.

Yeah,ain’t we lucky. Those are the choices we have in this election. Socialism and socialism lite.

Obama repeated his pledge to boost the size of the active military.

Yeah, but you are going to reduce our weapons stockpile and abort missile defense. I have said it before and I’ll say it again – America’s military under Obama will be castrated, gutted, turned into another blue, UN goon squad. And Islamists are rubbing their hands in gleeful anticipation.

But he also said the nation’s future and safety depends on more than just additional soldiers.

“It also depends on the teacher in East L.A., or the nurse in Appalachia, the after-school worker in New Orleans, the Peace Corps volunteer in Africa, the Foreign Service officer in Indonesia,” he said.

No you pretentious, pointy headed elitist. This country will remain safe as long as we remain the most powerful and prosperous nation on the planet, with a missile defense system in place , armed to the teeth, locked and loaded and ready to fire.

This inconceivably vast proposal is hardly being mentioned by the MSM; just a throwaway line in last week’s speech about volunteerism. But what will this “civilian national security force” do? Obama didn’t say. Where will they get their funding? Didn’t say. Wouldn’t this force be at least extra-constitutional, if not unconstitutional? Who would control them? Would service be mandatory like his other youth “volunteer” initiatives? ::shrug::

At this same speech, he promised to withhold funds from school districts that don’t make their junior high and high schoolers serve 50 hours a year. 100 hours for college students, provided their type of service is deemed acceptable by a sprawling new Federal bureaucracy.

Oh, and Obama’s going to double the size of the Peace Corps while quadrupling AmeriCorps. I’m curious if anyone will be left to fill all the newly vacated private sector jobs. St. Barack concluded his speech with this gem: “Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it.”

I’ll end with Ayn Rand who, were she alive, would likely be grimly shaking her head at seeing this country’s worse nightmares embodied in Barack Hussein Obama. And I’ll ask one question. How long will it be before voluntary becomes mandatory?

Why Are Americans So Willing to Give Up Freedom?

If you haven’t read Ligneus’s post on Adam Smith, do so. If men like that governed today in America, we wouldn’t have to deal with pompous pretenders like Obama or McCain. In the comments I remarked as follows:

“Must be the redneck in me, but i could never have conceived that so many would willingly throw down freedom”.

Indeed, it’s the fact that so many Americans are willing to allow the government to control their lives that has me flabbergasted. I have no answers for it, but “Just Another Richard” left an eloquent response, reproduced below.

Ah but zee, you fail to see the human capacity for self delusion, together with its ever faithful companion slothfulness. With a choice between a hard road and the easy way out, people will always rationalize the easy way…its so much simpler, after all, what’s to think about…be happy

The fact that, in the burdensome chores of struggle and endeavor, can be found our own redemption, where the sense of accomplishment can give meaning to existence, where the heavy load of actually thinking for yourself trains the mind to become self sufficient, to be an instrument of its own creation. No greater accumulation of wealth (hah…funny), no position of power in a hierarchy, could gain anything more than fleeting moments of respite from the longing. Only when I came to terms with myself, I cast off the goals of a shallow society, and recognized myself for what I was…just a simple individual, living out this tiny span, did I learn to accept myself on my terms and NOT someone else’s.

The fact that Marxism is a cult of death and destruction is obscured by the illusion that tomorrow we will be one step closer to Utopia if only we believe, is now indisputable and is the most cruel lie humanity could embrace. But for the mind that has cast aside all belief in any greater meaning, or indeed, any meaning, what is there left to do, for when such a mind looks inward it can be filled with nothing but fear and loathing, for there is nothing of substance to be found within; but to join in with the pack to create Utopia upon the hill tomorrow, gives meaning to an empty shell, a meaningless, and soul crushing existence, where that ultimate fear, greater even than the fear of death, must never be faced…the fear of facing one’s self.

I would only add that men cannot make the spiritual journey that Richard describes in a Marxist or Islamic society. The West grants men the freedom to find their way, or lose their way. Sadly, too many Americans are lost.

If Americans allow this global warming farce to be foisted upon them, history will one day mock and scorn a people who so blithely marched a wealthy and thriving nation into the abyss. Indeed, I have no doubt that future historians will render Al Gore in the ignominy he so richly deserves and hail PT Barnum a wiser man by far.

A year and a half ago, James Spann questioned the money and the so-called scientific consensus pushing the idea that mankind is causing global warming. Today, he says it’s losing steam. Two imminent surveys of meteorologists may further complicate the climate debate. […] “[Y]ou know, there was some great power in that movement back in January of 2007,” Spann said. “It’s pretty rapidly running out of gas and it just seems like every day more and more people are coming out with the fact that that’s pretty much a hoax. And these are Ph.D climatologists that are pretty much saying what I said all along.”

In January 2007, Spann received national attention when he wrote a post on his blog challenging a post by The Weather Channel climate expert Dr. Heidi Cullen. Spann fired back on Jan. 18, 2007: “Well, well,” Spann wrote. “Some ‘climate expert’ on ‘The Weather Channel’ wants to take away AMS certification from those of us who believe the recent “global warming” is a natural process. So much for ‘tolerance’, huh?” Spann claimed at the time he didn’t know any broadcast meteorologists who were sold on the theory touted by global warming alarmists.

When researching Obama’s supporters and ideological kin, one does not have to turn up too many rocks before uncovering yet another Ameri-phobic pimp for socialism. Bernie Sanders, a long time denizen of such rocks and a self-proclaimed socialist, is much admired by Obama, and, as evidenced in the video below, the admiration is mutual. The video itself, from Sanders’ 2006 campaign, is the same predictable prattle one has come to expect from Obama.

And god knows what people in the “People’s Republic of Vermont” are drinking to re-elect this man to the Senate. An Obama win would be a socialist’s wet dream for Sanders. The links below the video give you a clearer picture of what beliefs Sanders espouses and what policies he works to have implemented, comprising a left-wing agenda that Obama is clearly comfortable endorsing. I damn well hope that come election time the majority of people in this country make it indelibly clear that America is not, nor will ever be comfortable with turning this great nation into the welfare state that these men aspire to bring to fruition.

Bernie understands that the United States is a great nation, and that we have much to be proud of. But he strongly believes that Congress, in many instances, has its priorities backwards. Bernie has strongly opposed increases in spending for the military, Star Wars, the CIA, corporate welfare, the Space Station and other programs. He believes it is absurd that we spend hundreds of billions in these areas while, at the same time, inadequate federal spending denies millions of Americans the most basic necessities of life. While Bernie wants to cut spending on the military and corporate subsidies, he wants to increase federal funding for education, affordable housing, childcare, workers’ rights, social justice, veterans’ needs, environmental protection and other initiatives that improve the lives of ordinary Americans.(Source)

But, one might respond, isn’t Sanders, a socialist who espouses some very radical things, so far outside the ideological mainstream that it’s unfair to focus on him? After all, as a House member Sanders favored massive government redistribution schemes and sky-high taxes on the “rich”; the creation of a government-run health system; slashing military spending in half; turning our energy policy over to the government; repealing the Patriot Act; and terminating all trade agreements (“workers in both the United States and in foreign nations,” he once said, “would be better off without free trade agreements”).(Source)

Remember when Bernie Sanders made big headlines for himself by disrupting a board meeting at IBM? The issue at that time was retirement benefits and, regardless of the merits of the issue at hand, his uncontrolled rant has proven disastrous for Vermonters. Since then, the number of Vermont jobs at the IBM facility in Essex has dropped by 2,000 employees. With no significant new investment, the value of the plant has depreciated by 30 percent. This was a severe blow to Essex property taxpayers who had to (and will continue to have to) make up the difference. IBM is growing worldwide and the investment that should have gone into the Essex location has been re-directed to Fishkill, New York.

The lesson here is that when legislators attack or undermine tax generating businesses it is regular working people who suffer with job losses, tax increases, program cuts, or the combination of all three that we are seeing today in Vermont.(Source)

Our other senator, Sen. Bernard Sanders, a fervent Socialist, believes America should withdraw from the World Trade Organization because it favors multinational corporations and The Rich. The WTO is the very organization the world’s major socialist state, China, was so desperate to join that it spent over 15 years trying to look winsome to WTO members. When you’re flying to the left of Communist China, you may want to check your oxygen gauge. These gentlemen subtracted from their repute recently when they co-signed with Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Dianne Feinstein a letter to the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank.

Members of Congress are considering several bills designed to combat climate change. China argues that it has the right to grow and raise its standard of living closer to ours, and if we want to reduce worldwide emissions, we should do it by ourselves. In summary, cap-and-trade works badly in Europe, is DOA in Asia and makes no economic sense in America.

In case Congress missed the news, four U.S. airlines have gone broke during this month alone. Frontier declared bankruptcy, but will continue flying. Even worse, Aloha, ATA, and Skybus blamed unaffordable fuel as they grounded their jets. Aloha said sayonara to 1,900 employees, NBC News reports. ATA’s demise destroyed 2,200 jobs, while Skybus sacked 450 workers, atop the 80,000 positions lost across the economy as unemployment spiked from 4.8 percent in February to 5.1 in March.

The facts about capital gains rates and revenues are well known to our readers, but we’ll repeat them as a public service to the Obama campaign. As the nearby chart shows, when the tax rate has risen over the past half century, capital gains realizations have fallen and along with them tax revenue. The most recent such episode was in the early 1990s, when Mr. Obama was old enough to be paying attention. That’s one reason Jack Kennedy proposed cutting the capital gains rate. And it’s one reason Bill Clinton went along with a rate cut to 20% from 28% in 1997.

Either the young Illinois Senator is ignorant of this revenue data, or he doesn’t really care because he’s a true income redistributionist who prefers high tax rates as a matter of ideological dogma regardless of the revenue consequences. Neither one is a recommendation for President.

Congress has succeeded in making the student loan business less profitable. It did not think about the consequences of this, of course, but it should now see–if there is any wit on Capitol Hill–that when you make a business less profitable via government fiat, you decrease the incentives for that business to continue in its previous robust fashion–if at all.

Et voilà, that is precisely what we are seeing. Student loan lenders can’t make as much of a profit thanks to the caps on the interest rates they charge. As a result–especially given the current credit crunch–they are scaling back their activities or cutting out of the student loan business altogether. And this only serves to harm students.
